Abraham Heckler abt 1739
« on: Saturday 22 January 05 20:04 UTC (UK) »

I;m looking for the baptism of Abraham Heckler about 1739.
He married in Fyligdales North Yorkshire in 1775 but he's not in the parish records as being baptised there.
There were Heckler's in the West Ridings area about this time (some with biblical first names).

Has anyone researched this family or have any information about Abraham.
Thank you Kiss

Hi

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi Ticker,
No luck so far. Cry

I posted this on all the Yorkshire boards and the only reply was from a Rootschatter "Catswiskers" who said the reason I couldn't find him was because the IGI only gave batisms in Fylingdales from 1740. She mentioned that I would find him in some other records but I'm not sure what these are and I understand that I would have to travel to Yorkshire to look at them??
I've seen the BT's for Fylingdales at my local LDS Family History Library but the only Heckler mentioned is Abraham's marriage in 1775 and the baptism of his 1st Daughter and Son.

Abraham had 4 sons and he did not name any of them after him. His 1st. son was named Charles? Charles named his first son Charles and so on for 3 generations.
I have found a Charles Heckler baptised in Kirk Hammerton in 1739 ( same date as Abraham) and unlike his siblings have not been able to find a marriage or death for him. I am wondering if this is Abraham??
This Charles had a brother named Abel and other siblings had biblical names. I'm hoping he was baptised Charles Abraham Heckler and then used his second name?

You kindly found Abraham's burial for me at St Mary's Scarborough on 22-Jun-1825 aged 86.
ps  I could not find a baptism for Abraham at Scarborough either.

I'll have to keep plodding and hope for a break through
Cheers
Keith

Hi Keith

I've checked the 1851 census index for Scarborough again and there is a Charles Heckles(?) (the question mark is there on the index) aged 74 born Fylingdales.

Could this be your Charles?  Do you want the full entry from the 1851 census?

Best wishes

Hi Ticker,
Thanks again but I have the full 1851 list for this Charles Heckles?
He is indeed my Charles Heckler and the son of Abraham.

This is the Charles who I contacted you about to find a burial in St Mary's Church Scarborough because he died in 1864.
I have since been able to look at the burials records myself and as you say he is not there.
Yesterday I put on a post to see if an obituary was in the local papers. He was a Master Mariner and former Ship Owner and would have been well known in the area. If there was an Obit then it may say where he was buried and who attended the funeral etc.
I was hoping "Topsy" who offers to do a lookup in the Scarborough papers may pick this up? Grin
Thanks again for your reply
