DEWBERRY Charlotte
« on: Monday 30 June 08 05:43 BST (UK) »

Hello everyone hope that you are all well,  Cheesy Iam connected to the family of Mark and Charlotte Dewberry who migrated to Australia onboard the Bussorah Merchant with children Charlotte 24, John 14, Amelia 12, Matilda 2, two other children James and Julia stayed in England. Charlotte Dewberry married a James Marsh on the 15/4/1854 Parish of Saint James Sydney witnesses Mark Dewberry and wife Charlotte. Iam having trouble trying to find where Charlotte's mother is buried? her husband Mark James Dewberry may be buried at Waverly cemetery (died 1919) with a Elizabeth Marsh (died 1937)? anyone connected or are familiar with this family would love some help, have a great day.

If you search on
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm

there is only one death for a Charlotte DEWBERRY  in 1901 in Armidale NSW

A transcript of the death registration would give you the place of burial...cheaper and quicker option than a certificate, and the results are emailed to you.

Hi Jan and Cando

I've popped in from another topic on the DEWBERRY's
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=312642.new;topicseen#new
Where the death of Charlotte DEWBERRY was also raised in passing.....

Unfortunately, this one in Armidale 1901 - who is indexed as having parents named Henry and Charlotte M  is unlikely to be Jan's Charlotte......

From her definite immigration record to Australia 1853, it is said Jan's Charlotte was born in Herne, Kent  to parents named David FERGUSON and Mary. There are records on the IGI for this family, though it is not sourced. It has Charlotte baptised in Herne in 1806 - though her age on the UK census and in the passenger list have her born abt 1809/10.

There were a family of DEWBERRY's in Armidale area (who may prove eventually to be connected, or perhaps Jan already knows of them). (Search IGI for All DEWBERRY born in Australia.
One of them was William DEWBERRY.
He married Charlotte Mary BENNETT in 1873 Armidale (NSW BDM)
William is likely to be the son born abt  1851 to  John DEWBERRY and Lydia Maria RIDGEWAY, who died 1924 Armidale.

My feeling is the Charlotte DEWBERRY who died 1901 Armidale is likely to be William's wife.

Cheers

Hi Jan

Quote
(charlotte's) husband Mark James Dewberry may be buried at Waverly cemetery (died 1919) with a Elizabeth Marsh (died 1937)?

This death of Mark James DEWBERRY in 1919 PADDINGTON NSW is unlikely to be Charlotte's husband.
He (Charlotte's husband)  was born abt 1809 according to the UK Census 1851 and the 1853 shipping records.

In 1919, he would have been abt 110 years old, if born abt 1809!
The man who died 1919 is said to be the son of Mark and Elizabeth A.
Your Mark b abt 1809 -  on the shipping record, who  is said to be his parents?

This topic
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,246817.0.html
Found a very possible looking IGI birth record for him to parents named James and Sarah.

The more likely death of Charlotte's husband is this one - perhaps the informant was mistaken as to his mother's name:
1874 - Mark DEWBERY  parents: James and Mary - PADDINGTON NSW

The Mark James DEWBERRY who died 1919, on the other hand, is probably the son of John M DEWBERRY and wife Elizabeth A:
BIRTH: 1877 Mark J  DEWBERY to parents JOHN M  and ELIZABETH A  in  PADDINGTON

I would hazard a guess that the father John M's middle name was Mark - ie: he is the father  named Mark as indexed in the 1919 death of Mark James DEWBERRY.

And, I would say, very possible  John M DEWBERRY with wife Elizabeth A. is the son of your Mark and Charlotte.......

So....we have Mark James DEWBERRY buried in 1919 with a woman named Elizabeth MARSH who died 1937.
I think this is son and mother.

And very possibly it all goes like this:

John DEWBERRY, son of Mark and Charlotte, b abt 1836 England, died (as John M DEWBERRY) 1882 Waverley)
married as John DEWBERY to   Elizabeth SAMMONS 1866 SYDNEY.
Issue on NSW BDM: Amelia A 1867, John W 1871, Lucy E 1873 and Walter 1882  (some of them list father as John M, all list mother as Elizabeth A).

John's sister CHarlotte DEWBERRY had married James MARSH in 1854. She died 1895 Waverley NSW.
You have the death cert of James MARSH:
Died 1913 in NSW - his death certificate states he married twice :
1st wife was Charlotte DEWBERRY (dau of Mark and Charlotte)  - They married 1854 in Sydney, Parish of Saint James's
  in Sydney Australia.
2nd wife was Elizabeth DEWBERRY  formerly named PALMER.

The remarriage of James MARSH to Elizabeth A DEWBERY - in PETERSHAM NSW 1897

The death of Elizabeth Ann  MARSH 1937 - PETERSHAM,. Daughter of James and Ann.
This death is likely to be that of the same woman buried with Mark James DEWBERRY.

And there is a birth in NSW indexes:
Elizabeth SAMMONS 1845 to parents named James and Ann.

I would say:
James MARSH married the widow of his late wife Charlotte's brother,  John M DEWBERRY.
And that the "formely PALMER" part of the record on James MARSH"s death cert in relation to his 2nd wife's name, is possibly an error on the part of whoever informed of James death?

Certs would be needed to prove the links of course, but it seems very likely scenario's to me!
Note sometimes DEWBERRY is spelled as DEWBERY in the NSW indexes.
Other variations to keep in mind DEWBURY, DEWBUREY, DEWBORY, DEWSB....etc.

But we still don't know when Charlotte snr died  Cry

Hello Kovel, great to receive your message about Mark Dewberry's family which appears to be the right one, parents James Dewberry and mother Sarah Hall. All I know at present is Mark Dewberry's wife Charlotte (marriage on the 11/8/1828 Old Church St. Pancras) was a Ferguson from Marylebone. At present Iam purchasing their death certificates from here in Australia where they passed on, the records tell a lot of information about them. Lovely to receive your message please keep in touch if you have more records, have a great day.  Wink
