Anne LANE of Stillington
« on: Monday 30 June 08 13:48 BST (UK) »

In 1871 Anne LANE aged 13, daughter of Richard & Hannah LANE, is with her family in Helperby, N. Yorks.

In 1881 the family have moved to Earlestown in Lancashire but Anne is not with them.

I am wondering if she died or had married by this time and wonder if the event took place in Yorkshire or Lancashire or anywhere in between!?

There is a marriage registered in the Easingwold dist in Dec qua 1873, as Ann (no e)  but I thought she might be too young for this marriage.  Huh

There are other possible marriages in several areas as "Anne" but not sure how to go about deleting them from the list. I certainly can't afford to buy them all to solve the problem.

Any help or advice from others on how to tackle this issue, or have had similar problems, welcome.

Many thanks.

Hi,

You can go through your list of possibles, checking for known details before you part with any cash.
You can either ask the local register offices to check for parents' names before you buy, or do the same at the GRO

Here's the link to the online GRO site for certificate ordering:
 www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

They say that if you have done your own searching in the GRO indexes and have found more than one reference to the name you are researching, or are unsure which is the entry you require, they offer reference checking online. The charge is £7 for action on the first entry, which includes the cost of the certificate, and £3 for checking each subsequent reference against the information you have provided.  You must give one piece of information that you are sure will appear on the certificate, e.g. the exact date of the event.  A certificate will only be issued if the entry matches the checking point you give them.

List of register offices at http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/regoff.html - most reg offices will check for known details without charge

Sometimes you can eliminate the wrong couples by checking them in the following census.

She would have been a bit young at 15/16, anyway have checked the other 3 names on the list, Joseph Sawyer seems to have married Mary who was born Helperby, they were in Gt/ Ouseburn in 1881.  So that Ann Lane must have married John Hill

I can see a John Hill b.Great Ouseburn in 1891 census with wife Annie aged 34 born Stillington, and their oldest child Annie was born Earlestone Lancashire in 1880 - coincidence??  Will find them in 1881 then post both sets of census details

I did try that too and drew a blank - so it's good to get you to confirm what I thought too.

Pity though - the net just spread further!

That's odd I can't get results on the familysearch.org website for any of those!?!
Are you using something else?

Try entering Anna Hall b. 1858 or Herbert Edwin Barlow b. 1880 to find the  familysearch entry

Well hello cousin!  Wink

I think we may have "spoken" before. I'm just in the process of updating my LANE in Lancashire timeline, I'll send you a copy when I've got as updated as I can.
Don't have any of the baptism dates as yet, been (painfully) slow working through purchasing the birth and marriage certificates. Tried to locate burial details too.
Only last month did I find Richard & Hannah's gravestone in Newton-Le-Willows Cemetery. If you want more details I'll have to email or private message you.

Great to catch up with you again and hope all is well at your end!  Grin
