Just noticed Ellen BARLOW b. Stillington

only marriage I can find close would be:

Cheshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1871 to 1875
BARLOW Edwin
GAINS Esther
Heaton Norris, St Thomas
Stockport ST7/9/236

Marriage Jun qua 1875 Stockport  8a 35
BARLOW  Edwin
GAINS  Esther

GAINS / GAINES was Ann(ie) HILL nee LANE's mother's maiden name - I wonder if Ellen/Esther is her cousin???

best wishes,

Ian.

Hi Ian,  (this is my neck of the woods  Grin)

Having looked at the image of the 1881

It does say Esther, not Ellen and next to Anna Hall the relationship is cousin and for her son William it's scored through but looks like second cousin.

Sept Q 1857
Esther Gaines
Northallerton 9d 423

Doh...forgot to put which year... this is the 1871

Gueldable (a small village near Borrowby)
John F Gaines H 55 Farmer of 17 acres Yorks Carlton Miniott
Hannah          W 50 Farmer's wife             do  Thirsk
Richard    son  u 18    do         son             do   Wath
Esther      dau u 13    do         dau             do   Borrowby

Robert H  son   u 3     do           do             do        do

from the IGI, extracted

JOHN FOXTON GAINS
Christening:  21 MAR 1816   Sand Hutton Near Thirsk, Yorkshire, England

Where the relationship is though I'm not too sure

Hi Madpants

You're a hero  Kiss

I don't have my GAIN/ES notes with me at the mo, so I can't tell you just yet (Rick are you out there?!?)

I had over looked the entry of the householders - too excited with the knowledge of Anne being found (that'll teach me!)

Just had a reply to a post were Plimmer was down as Mimmer - no wonder it can get so tricky tracking them down

Hope you're well.

Best wishes,

Ian.

Hi

Confused now - as I have Hannah GAINS bap. 26th April 1835 at Marton Cum Moxby - dau of Thomas & Christiana (Miller)

parents marriage as:
13 Nov 1813 at Topcliffe by Thirsk

siblings as:
Ann/e b. c1816
John b. c1819
Betty b. c1824
Esther b. c1827
William b. c1830
William b. c1838

maybe I went wrong somewhere - I'm never as confident researching pre1837!

best wishes,

Ian.

Funny but when I went looking for her that was the only one I found, got a tad confused and thought you'd know who was who  Grin

Marton cum Moxby is 1 mile from Stillington, but tbh there are approx 20 years between Hannah and John F are we looking at 1st cousins once removed?  She has an Esther too......there has to be some connection  Lips Sealed

I'm sure in time all will become clear!!!

sigh - sometimes I wish the ancestors had left notes for us to find all the answers we are looking for.
