Hi,
I wondered if anybody on rootschat lived in Bedminster as i found out last week that at
St Aldhelms church on Chessel Street there is supposed to be a family tomb to my main family line the WOOD family.
Would it be possible for someone to have a look for me as i live in Leicester and don't want to travel down and find out that its not there.
Thanks.
Kev.

Hi Kev
I live very close to Chessel Street, and I would be happy to have a look for you, if indeed the gravestones are still there. Also if you would like a photo of the Church, I could do that as well.
Dale

Hi Dale, that would be fantastic on both thank you, apparently it is a tomb!! My grandad Ralph John Wood and my Nan Winifred are supposed to be there, maybe some others as well.
Any photos would be wonderful,
Thanks again,

Hi Kev
I went down to St. Aldhelms Church this morning, and disappointingly found that there are no graves or tombs, either outside or inside the Church. Speaking to a lady inside, she told me that there had never been any burial ground at the Church, and told me to try St. Paul's Church about a mile away. I did this, again to no avail. The only possibility I can think of, is that your grandparents had their funerals at St. Aldhelms, and were then buried at Arnos Vale Cemetery, which was the major Cemetery for South Bristol. Arnos Vale is absolutely massive, and vastly overgrown, and large parts of it are inaccessible, although there is a wonderful work in progress to restore it to it's former glory. If your grandparents were buried there, it would probably be possible to find the tomb. I did take a photo of St. Aldhelms for you if you would still like one, just let me know. Sorry not have had any luck.
Dale

Hi Dale, thank you ever so much for your efforts, I will speak to my Uncle and Auntie again soon and see what they say, im pretty certain that they are not at Arnos Vale. The rest of them are at Canford so i was surprised when they told me about St Aldhelms.
Thanks again, hopefully i can repay the favour some time.
Kev.

You're welcome Kev. If I can be of any further help from this end, just give me a shout.
