cemetery guidance-COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Tuesday 01 July 08 13:33 BST (UK) »

Hi

My gt-grandfather Stephen Gillespie Melvin died in Regents Park London in November 1926 while on holiday from Australia.

I have his death cert from UK; his probate from Australia and his will but can only find one indirect reference that he might have been buried in East Ham. Although this seemed a little odd as he was non-conformist (usually!) I enquired whether he was buried in East Ham Jewish cemetery but unfortunately he is not in the records for that cemetery.

I have also emailed a number of other London cemeteries to no avail.

Is anyone able to give me some guidance on the likelier cemeteries for him to be buried in 1926 given he was residing in Regents Park. Are there other cemeteries in East Ham than the large mainly Jewish one? His brother's family was living in West Ham which to my mind might have meant he be buried there, but I'm at a loss.

Sorry to ask so many questions but I am very keen to try to find where he might be buried especially since there is tak that the headstones may be removed in the not-too-distant future.

Many many thanks for any help

hi Dawn

The "not here" replies are:
East Ham (Jewish)

West Ham

London Borough of Camden who checked all their cemeteries (inc Islington & St Pancras) and suggested Highgate (but couldn't get anywhere with that)

City of Westminster cemeteries through their central access person

At this point I'm wishing for an Australian death certificate which tells you where they're buried Wink

If he wasn't so pivotal to my history I'd ignore where he was but........

Many thanks for any guidance or help

Pauleen
