many thanks. Tha could well be him but unfortunately I have only got William on census records in England which record pob as Scotland. I was emailed with some information which suggested there was a connection with Old Machar. I was hoping perhaps to find William's siblings in Scotland and through them make the link...if that makes sense

have had a quick look at 41 census....going by williams date of birth this is the closest i can see..
old machar, address: woodside
catherine pratt age 35
elizabeth " " 10

the family are living with another 2 families at the same address...
