Kittrick - returning to England
« on: Tuesday 01 July 08 23:11 BST (UK) »

Are there records for passenger ships returning to England in the 1920s from the USA?

I'm looking for the Kittricks, who left England (1907) and went to live in America but then returned.

Thanks!

Anne.~

Hello Anne, What specific years did they live in America? Have you found them in any US censuses?  Pat

Hi Pat.

I think they lived in America from 1910 to about 1920s. My grandmother Mary was back in Wakefield by 1930 for she married and had my dad and his brothers in the 30s before dying in 1941. My dad has very little memory of his mum, Mary, or the Kittrick family. Some of Mary's siblings stayed in the USA, we believe Kentucky, but the parents returned to Wakefield. I have no names for the parents, but was told they might have been Irish orginally.
My grandfather remarried and so my dad was raised by his stepmum and his real mum Mary Kittrick was rarely mention and no records of her are in the family. A distant cousin wrote and told me that Mary had siblings, Katherine, Thomas, Patrick, Edward and Frances. No knows the parents names.

It is such a stumbling block, full of half truths and vague stories.

Thanks so much,
Anne.~

Thanks Inicky.

I have no idea if they are my family because all I have is Mary Kittrick and not her parents.

I'll go look at Family search and see what I can find. I just can't link Mary to her parents or anyone really. very frustrating.

Thanks,
Anne.~

Passenger lists for those returning from the US do exist in the National Archives, but at the moment they have not been indexed and are not online, so they're very difficult to use.

http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action has the outwards lists.
 - Janet, Mary and Edward appear together in 1907 here, and Andrew and Frances are traveling together at www.ellisisland.org (perhaps misspelled on the outwards lists?)
