Me and My Best Friends

Young Family
« on: Wednesday 02 July 08 05:28 BST (UK) »

Hello There,
I was wondering if someone could help me out and settle an argument between my hubby and I. First let me explain - My husband doesn't speak to his parents and his grandparents are deceased so we have no one to turn to who can tell us about the family, to top things off we have migrated and the GRO will not send me certificates or scan them even if I pay. I just found out that the family Vicar had retired!
Let me show my family tree and then I will explain where my problem is:

Barry Evans 1974 born oswestry shropshire- I'll pretend he is starting point
Leonard Charles Evans)oswestry b. 1955- Barrys father
Carol Christine Harding oswestry b.1956 Barry Mother

I have Leonards side sorted (kind of) His mums is a different story
Carols parents:
Charles Cyril Harding b.1929-2003 oswestry
Sheila Young (I believe her middle name is isobel b.UNknown? - 2003 (I remember from her funeral but cant be certain)

Now my beloved thinks she was born in Berwick up on tweed/Scotland (I remember a scottish acent and I remember when me and hubby got married in scotland she was talking about it) I cannot find her birth records.
Her mother is called Nora and she died in oswestry/Shrewsbury around 1992 (my hubby remembers a very scottish acent) however I think I have found her death records, and if it is correct then she has the middle Evelyn -
Now it gets complicated - I cross reference her name with just using Nora Evelyn and it comes up she was born in Atcham (my hubby is adamant that is wrong!) however I cross referenced her with with a marriage and she married in atcham a guy also by the name of young! Now I am lost - she was definatley scottish, if this is her then her maiden name was Blakemore.
See how mixed up I am!!
I cannot find a birth for Sheila Young, I do not have access to the scottish records, she was obviously born around the 1929mark, but im stuck big time. maybe finding Shelias birth would be the best place to start, I am assuming that it will have her mums maiden name on it and then I will be proved wrong and hubby can bask in the glory of being correct?
Does anyone have any clues. Please, pretty please.......................

Hi  Smiley

Just to say that Berwick on Tweed is in Northumberland.

Also, try contacting the Local Studies Library in Oswestry. The Librarian there is fantastic. There is likely to be an Obituary in the Oswestry Advertizer or Shropshire Star :
