Brummy girl,

That's great - I can eliminate some of  these people - as not belonging to my Knights.

The poor little Selina Ball - it looks like her mother survived the Workhouse and she didn't.

Many thanks for your help.

Brummy Girl
With regard to your posting 3rd July re Selina Ball and burial grave 20 people. Can you please confirm if this was a Ball family grave or a common grave? I think you are saying they were all from the Workhouse.
I think she may have been an infant (13 months) and with Mary Ann Ball in Bridewll St House of Correction on 1851 Census.

Hi Lazarus

Yes Selina was buried in what appears to be a workhouse grave with 20 other peeps.

I agree with you on the 1851 census, i have done a bit of digging and come up with this that Sarra may already know........

There is a Mathew Ball living at no 22 malt house yard Well Street in 1851
Mathew Ball - head - M - age 48 - Born Newbold Huh Leicester - Hawker
Eliza Ball - daughter - age 13 - born Loughborough - Nurse
Rose Ball - daughter - age 11 - born Rugby
George Ball - Son - age 9 - born Rugby

on the 1861 at Well Street, Coventry
Mathew Ball - head -  age 58 - born Newbold ?? Leicester - General Hawker of Brooms ?
Mary Ball - wife - age 40 - Born Norfolk, Norwich

At London Road there is a Mathew Ball buried with .........
Ref - 3-1744 - Date - 23/11/1856 - Amelia Knight - age 3 Months - Address Spon Street - County War - Consecrated - Parish St John - Type P - Class 4/2 - Square 140 - Grave 119 - Book 3/005 - Purchaser Abraham Knight

Ref - 9-0634 - ate 30/11/1873 - Mathew Ball - age 72 - Address Workhouse - County - War - Consecrated - Parish All Saints - Type P - Class 4/2 - Square 140 - Grave 119 - Book 3/005 - Opened - Purchaser Abraham Night

Ref - 17-0203 - Date 23/7/1896 - Maria Knight - age 63 - Address Workhouse - County War - Consecrated - Parish All Saints.......Rest as above

Ref - 18-2380 - Date - 8/1/1901 - Alice Elizabeth Smith - age 21 - Address - 26 Trafalger Street - County War - Consecrated - Parish St John

Thank you Brummy Girl
Sarra and I have been working on the Knight family of whom one was a Parkhurst Boy and sent to Australia as an "Exile".
There is a Knight/Ball connection,so your contribution is most valuable.

Brummy Girl
I have just noticed one of your interests might be Sidwell of Coventry.
Coincidently,I have an Elizabeth Sidwell marrying 12 Oct 1840 Coventry St Michael by Banns,my Thomas Knight Snr a watchmaker.
This was his second marriage as his first wife Jane Smith looks to have died 14 Feb 1839.
The witnesses to the Knight/Sidwell marriage were John and Hannah Bearsley. Is there a possibility we have a connection?

Brummy girl - yes I think this George Ball is from the same family - of Matthew & Mary A Ball. I did find the 1851 census you mentioned in your other post. I can't account for the other children listed on this 1851 census - Eliza, Rosina (Rose) don't know if they married or died.

The 1841 census for this same family, also has a  Mary (b.abt 1836) William (b.abt1829) & John Ball (b.abt 1832) - I think I have found the two boys on the 1851 census - both at Grey Friars Lane - they were both Hawkers.

I may have found the death for Mary (A) Ball (B.abt1836) on the NBI (1848) - it doesn't say she was buried in the London Road Cemetery.

Could I please ask you to have a look on your CD for the death/burial of Mary Ball - 13 Jan 1848 age 12 - Coventry Holy Trinity.

PS - sorry I  messed up the quote part again   Huh Huh

Many thanks
