Layston/Barkway/Ware any connections between them!!

Hi All,

I've been stuck for some time now with a William Bateman marrying a Hannah Lambert in Great Amwell in 1795 - the only W.B that I can find is in Barkway in 1760  - and that is 14 miles away.

Left this one for now - gone off and done other Batemans - I have now come across another line (Sammons) born Ware 1797 - only find possibles in Layston(Buntingford).

Now is there any connections between Ware and the Layston area which could be the reason why 2 families moved between them??

I know some of my family worked on the canals, but thought that finished at Ware?

Any help appreciated,

I can't think of any obvious connections between them!  People did move around though, so perhaps a temporary occupation change........or perhaps the Barkway WB is a red herring, and your WB is still to be found.......likewise your SAMMONS.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for that - someone has said they are both on the main London - Cambridge Road - that would be a useful easy way to travel between the towns.


Anyway will see what I can find out about any other William Batemans

Off to read a good book now!!   Grin Grin
