Syner Family
« on: Wednesday 02 July 08 20:38 UTC (UK) »

I'm researching the Syner family of Benthall & Broseley (Salop) and am back to the 1530s. The earliest occupation I have is as trowmen which would explain the Syners in the Wye Valley (also trowmen). There seems to be a grouping in Bridgnorth but also around Lye,  Kidderminster and Kingswinford.
I'd appreciate contact with anyone with links to the surname especially C16th / C17th.

Hi there I have been researching Syners for over 10 years .
My husband is John Edward Syner born Newport Gwent his father was Edgar Myrick Syner born Newport Gwent his father was John Edward born Newport Gwent.
I have managed to trace my husbands line as far back as the late 1600's in the Wye Valley.
A few families went to America and I have had many letters from Syner's living there. No connection made so far.

Ceri,

Good to hear from you. Are you back to John Syner b.1671 or William? I am in touch with John Syner who is a descendent of this John. I have lots of info from the Wye Valley and have a land deed from 1319 for a Syner near Rogiet. I have an earlier one too but of course impossible to link up. Although not my line I was interested in the Syner Meyrick connection. I expect you've seen the Ludlow marriage?

Please get in touch - my e-mail is my username at blueyonder.co.uk

Hi yes back to John Syner I have the land deed 13oo's but don't have the Ludlow connection.
I wasn't able to contact you direct mail returned will try again can you give me e mail again please.
your contact John is my husbands cousin.
I have so many family trees from dozen of Syners from the midlands and e few from the States never been able to connect but I think there is one.
I think the Syners did move up and down the canals and some moved to Devon and on to America there is a connection to the Devon lot.

Ceri,

My e-mail is bristolloggerheads at blueyonder.co.uk

replace at with the usual symbol.

"Shropshire: Ludlow - Parish Registers, Hereford Diocese

16 Sep 1809 Thomas Syner & Mary Meyrick. Wit: Ed. Powys, Richd. Wood."

The earliest Shropshire mention I have is Richard Seyner c1529 - 1592. It's difficult getting back further than this.

Talk again soon.

Ceri,

I have also compliled details of all the cargoes carried via Gloucester the Syners were involved in from the 1680s - 1760s. Most were your branch through Chepstow but the earliest were in my tree out of Shropshire coincidently going to Chepstow.

Your branch also has Bristol connections - let me know if you don't have them.

Syner Family in Bristol
« Reply #8 on: Monday 01 September 08 16:24 UTC (UK) »

Joseph Seiner born c 1804 in Bristol and his wife Eliza. He is listed in 1841 as a Mariner living at 7 Barclays Buildings. (St. Philips & St. James parish)

There was a J. Synar who ran a trow service to Hereford from Welsh Back in 1791 - perhaps his father?

Also:

Richard Syner Christened 24 June 1810 Bristol Temple Collection
Parents were Richard Syner and Elizabeth

Syner marriages

There are only two Syners listed and no Seiners in the BAFHS Bristol Diocese marriage Registers CD Vol 9 covering 1754 - 1812 - as follows:

SYNER RICHARD 31.03.1805 ELIZABETH CHILLCOTT ST.THOMAS 3B 98 389
SYNER WILLIAM 19.12.1811 MARGARET WRIGHT ST.JAMES 3h 189 247

Syner Snippets
« Reply #12 on: Thursday 04 September 08 16:28 UTC (UK) »

Ceri,

Are these yours?

Elizabeth Jones Syner Mincks. It says Elizabeth Mincks formerly Syner on her first child's BC. The other's say Elizabeth Mincks, late Syner, formerly Jones. If you have any information on an Elizabeth Jones marrying a Syner man before 1852 I will pass it on to someone who is looking. Apparently she was born about 1826 and married John Mincks in 1852. According to the census she was born in London but family lore says Wales. Her father's name was Morgan.

Or:

Mary Syner who married William Andrew in Ross on Wye in 1770 and had 15+ children. William was allegedly a nail maker from Birmingham and died in 1816. Mary died in Ross in 1817.
