Does anyone have access to copies of The World's Fair between 1998 and 2001? Vanessa Toulmin, of the National Fairground Archive in Sheffield, tells me that she wrote over a hundred articles for that paper during those years, but cannot remember what appeared when. I was particularly interested in two by her on the Irvin family of fair people, in which she tells of Ben Phelps (real name Bennett Philps - circa 1818 to 1903) as the originator of the show dynasty. He was a fiddle player and maintained a dancing booth (canvas tent with wooden flooring), before buying a Carousel later in the 19th century. If anyone could tell me which issues those two articles appear in, or (ideally) send me images, I would be very grateful. Or if anyone has information on Phelps from other sources, that would also be welcome.
Good wishes to all,
Keith Chandler
