The Williamson Arms in Church Street was named after Monkwearmouth's most famous family, as Sir Hedworth Williamson at one time owned virtually all the land between the River Wear and Whitburn. The pub consisted of a Long Bar, Tap Room, Front & Back Parlours, and a quoit ground at the back. The pub closed in 1933. Stan
