Help with parents names - Hammond

Hi there, i am trying to find the names of Lucy Hammond parents, she was born 1918 Northamptonshire.  Her parents died before she had children so very little is known about them.

Welcome beginner, we all had to start sometime.

I have checked Ancestry and Free BMD for Birth 1918 none for Northamptonshire only following

Lucy M Hammond Born June qtr 1918 Mother Ingham Wakefield 9c ----
Lucy F J Hammond        Sept qtr 1918    "       Joslin     Islington 1b 232

Why did you think born Northamptonshire??

I know she had a sister called Beatrice, a Brother George and a couple of others.

From the Lamport area i think it is the Brixworth district but don't quote me on it!

Searched again for a Lucy G Hammond nothing

But found Birth for GEORGE H HAMMOND Sept Qtr 1912 Brixworth 3b 191
Mother's maiden name Herbert.

there is another but not Brixworth
George Hammond Sept qtr 1918 Rugby 6d 1244  (Rugby is Northants I think)
Mother's maiden name  Morris

There was a Beatrice D Hammond March qtr 1916 Uppingham 7a 547
Mother Ablett  Uppingham is  near Northants.

I have checked the full GRO birth index from 1916-1919 inclusive - not found.
However, on freebmd there is a Lucy G Hammond  Sep 1910 Tonbridge 2a  825

As Pam says, she may not have been born in Northamptonshire even if she lived there later on

You mentioned children, so she must have married.  If you get her marriage certificate that should give you her father's name and occupation, which would help to find him in census, and to find his wife's name.

So can you find out her marriage date and get her marriage certificate?

Do you know what the G stood for, maybe she was registered as G.... Lucy instead of Lucy G?

Goldby/Golby not sure of the spelling, i will try to hunt round for some papers! I have no idea what year she got married, but it was to Joseph George King.

Pam, Rugby is in Warwickshire!

Lamport is in the Brixworth (Northants) registration district, and Uppingham district is in Northamptonshire

When you find an entry on freebmd, if you click on the registration district, up comes a list of all the places covered by that district


Golby/Goldby is unusual, wonder if it was her mother or grandmother's maiden name?  That could help  Smiley

Well just out of curiosity, I entered Hammond and Goldby in the surnames for marriages on freebmd, and guess what?

marriage Dec 1844 Brixworth    15   475
GOLDBY    Lucy   to     HAMMOND    Richard   

now that's too much coincidence!  Must be related way back and that must be the person Lucy's named after, don't you think?

More like Great or great-great-grandparents! Married 1844 so born about 1820?

If you like, I can look them up in the census from 1851 onwards?  Do you have access to any census?
