Hi

The only Joseph CARR birth in 1887 in Melbourne is the following

CARR  Joseph Mckay
Father Joseph Aaron  Mother Lilly DUNBAR
at Carlton  1887  Reg# 26712

and this more than likely the  parents' marriage

CARR Joseph Aaron
DUNBAR Elizabeth Yatta
at Geelong  1887  Reg# 7159

and the birth of Joseph Aaron
CARR  Joseph  Aaron
Father Joseph  Mother Margaret McKAY
at Chilwell  Year 1959  Reg# 13890

and Joseph's and Elizabeth deaths in Adelaide

CARR Joseph Aaron
6 Jul 1949  Age 90  Status Widow
Residence Adelaide  Death Place Adelaide
Ade 742/3257

CARR Elizabeth Yetta
3 Jun 1921 Aged 54 years  Status M
Residence Adelaide   Death place Adelaide
Ade 446/362

The only way you can check that Joseph McKay is Joseph Alfred is to purchase the birth cert to see when his parents were married....but it is the only CARR/DUNBAR marriage around that time. A bit of checking for you now.

Did you note the name as the birth in Carlton in 1877 was for a Joseph McKay CARR?

Thanks for all the info................  I have checked out that Joseph McKay Carr IS Joseph Alfred Carr.... one and the same.  I think Grandma must have made a decision on his second Christian name and his parents said no to McKay, we will have Alfred.  Have searched out all you have given me on his son Alfred Hamilton Carr born 1910 which would make him 98 if he is still alive.  Can't find any death notices for him ... Will leave post up in case someone finds anymore re Alfred.    Undecided   It is possible, I guess, he is still alive !!
