I would really love some help/advice/suggestions with what to do next regarding finding the birth/baptism details of my great grandmother, Janet (Jannet)Carmichael, born 1854-1856 probably Dunblane Perth.
Her parents were Alexander Carmichael and Helen (Ellen/Eleanor) Stewart (Stuart) who married in Dunblane 30 Oct 1847.
I have found birth/baptisms for three siblings - Daniel (Donald) 12 June1852, James 25 Aug 1852 and Duncan 15 May 1857.
In Sept 1858, Alexander, Helen and children Daniel age 6, Janet age 4 and Duncan age 1 departed the Port of Liverpool on the ship Admiral Lyons and arrived in Sydney Australia on 30 Dec 1858. (From shipping records - assisted passage).
Janet's mother, Helen died in childbirth (twins who also died) age 30 in 21 Sept 1862. On her death cert Janet's age is recorded as 3 years old, even though this is probably another sibling, Jane Bowman Carmichael, born 1860 in NSW Aust.
Janet is the informant on her father, Alexander's death certificate, 12 June 1886 and gives her age as 30 years.
Janet died 22 October, 1912 age 58 years. Her husband was the informant who recorded that she was born in Dunblane Scotland and had been in Australia for 54 years.
I have searched ScotlandsPeople, IGI and have shipping records and every certificate relating to this family that I can find - she has to be there somewhere.

Hi Margaret
There is something strange about the Dunblane OPR's. I downloaded a page from SP re one of my lines and the dates are all over the place. Also, it looks like the page was written up all at once. Just to give you an idea the sequence of dates is 1831, 1834, 1836, 1832, 1834, 1827, 1831, 1835, 1835, 1833, 1831, 1833 and 1835. Some include both birth & baptisms whilst others are just births. Also, if you look at your names, James was born 2 months after Daniel. Duncan would be correct as his birth was transcribed from the Civil Register which commenced in 1855. Also, both the IGI and SP up to and including 1854 are mainly the Established Church so if the family left the establshed Church their baptisms may not have been transcribed.

I agree Andy, this is very strange - the dates of birth (even more strange - sans baptisms) written on the page that Daniel and James were recorded was similar but even more eratic than your example, with dates ranging from 1833 - 1852 (in no particular order). It just doesn't make sense. I wonder if we can find out why this was?
Another anomaly, apart from Daniel and James being recorded as born a few months apart, is that on James entry, it is written as 'James to said Alexander Carmichael and Helen Stewart in Feus of Dunblane born 25 Aug 1852' (all other entries on the page state son to, daughter to etc., Now I wonder, as James didn't travel to Australia with the family in 1858 and I am unable to find a death for him (1855-1858, unfortunately no records 1852-1855) plus his birth date is recorded incorrectly, could it be possible that James is mistranscribed and actually should read 'Janet' which still doesn't solve the problem of her birth/baptism date. Unless I can find her record I guess I may never know for certain.
I don't think this is typical of earlier Dunblane OPRs though, I checked a page from 1800 and it is in order with only those born and baptised in 1799/1800 and the 1847 Dunblane marriage entry for Alexander and Helen was almost perfect, listing the day, month and year in chronological order.
Good point that the family may have left the Established Church before Civil Registration, although, I'm not sure how I could determine that.
I wonder if anyone else is having similar problems with the Dunblane OPRs births/baptisms for similar years?
