I do hope that some kind person will be able to help me.
I am looking for a marriage between Stephen Shears / Sheers and Susannah. Stephen was born in South Hill, Cornwall in 1802 and Susannah was also born there in 1806. Their first daughter Mary Ann was born in 1828 at East Stonehouse, Devon. Three more children were born in 1830, 1831 and 1834, so all births were before civil registration. Stephen Shears died on 8th March 1851.
I can find no record of a marriage in Devon, and no record in the transcripts on the Lynher Parishes History Web Site that includes South Hill and and a few surrounding villages. If they were in fact married, maybe it was at a different village in Cornwall, but I don't know how to find out where, as I live rather a long way from the Cornwall County Record Office.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you for reading this.
Regards, siskin.

Hi siskin,
I am afraid I don't see it.
It is not listed in Southill, nor do I see it listed elsewhere in Cornwall. Looking for a possible Susanna there is Susanna JANE baptised Southill in 1806 but unfortunately it appears she may have married James Rowe in 1832. A Susanna HARRIS was baptised in 1803 - I see your Susanna gives an age of 35 in 1841 and 47 in 1851 so this may a possible. From there we have 1801 or 1809 which seem a little out.
With both parties giving Southill as their pob one would expect the marriage to have taken place in Southill if in fact it was in Cornwal at alll. There is always a possibility the entry has been missed from the transcriptions so if you the marriage may have taken place in Southill you could hire the film from your local LDS Family History Library and check it yourself. Some entries can be just unreadable though not as common in marriage entries after the forms arrive. With the proximity of Southill to the border along with Stephen and Susanna having their family in Devon I do have to wonder if the marriage did in fact occur in Devon and just hasn't been located yet.
Sorry I could not be more help............Kris
