Maurice Leslie Roper RITCHIE

Hi rootschatters,
New to South Africa, help wanted for a close friend's wife.
We know Maurice Leslie Roper Ritchie was born somewhere in SA on the 16.10.1898 and died aged 80 in Wandsworth London whilst on a family visit. We are trying to ascertain his parentage. Family hearsay says it was a James Ritchie/Leslie Roper Ritchie  born in Rosemarkie Scotland 1863. There is a James birth in Rosemarkie for that date but really do need further confirmation.It is also said he fought and died in the Boer War but who knows. Also his wife is said to have come from St Helena. We have tried to order Maurices birth cert but have waited 8 months so far even though the the cheque was cashed 71/2 months ago. Any help really appreciated.

Hello John,

Did you know that Boer prisoners of war were held on St Helena?  May have relevance.  There are a number of St Helena web sites which may help.
