Exellent!

Thank you so much...that has filled a few holes in - didn't know Williamson was a girl, and I agree, what a strange name!.

Are there any accesses to the 1891 census for lookups they either of you would be willing to do?

On 1871 Census ( at page 5178-71-8)
the Percy household headed by Mary !

Ancestry read and indexed her age as 20. Jacques read it as 25. My defect peepers saw it as 26 ?

James Fail's birth place is recorded as WOOPERTON. (this lay within the parish of Eglingham)

Burton Village lay within the parish of Bamburgh.

Spittal "township" lay within the chapelry/parish of Tweedmouth. Tweedmouth lay within an area called "Islandshire"

Islandshire along with Norhamshire and Bedlingtonshire were three "enclaves"

The enclaves were collectively called "North Durham"

In 1844 this arrangement ceased and the above places reverted back to been Northumberland.

On the name Williamson as a first name.

On C1871 in Scotland there were 171 females with first name Williamson (a handful of these had it as a "middle" name.)

This was many more more than the males.

Trivia Angle ... the Surname Profiler web site has Williamson as a surname very much widespread over England and Scotland, but numerically rooted in Scotland... centred in Shetland

Thanks for those Michael,

Good to know that Northumberland and Durham could be interchangeable around that period - will help with being able to locate individuals. And as for Williamson - have never come across the name before or since, but then again, I haven't yet followed her onto marriage yet to see if she continues the name on.

Could any of you try to locate in the 1861 census three of the children listed in 1851?

James PERCY b. 1835 Spittall
Ralph PECRY b. 1836       "
Mary PERCY b. 1838        "

Plus, I lose a child, Richard PERCY b. 1840 between 1841 and 1851. Is there anyway of checking his death date?

Finally, to Pam, are you able to look in the 1891 census for:
James FRAIL b. 1848
Sarah A FRAIL b. 1853
Alice FRAIL b. 1871

I'll try to locate them on the 1881 census and do look for the PERCY girls or see if any of them got married after 1871.

Again, thank you all for your help I so much appreciate it.

Hello Fiona, Ralph Percy b.  abt 1835 Spittal married 12 May 1860 in Berwick, NBL to Sarah Murray b. 1835 in Co. Leitrim, Ireland. They had 8 known children. I have all exact birth dates, marriage dates and children for them. I can provide specifics should you so desire.   Grin  Pat

Hello all, Sarah A. Percy b. 1853 married James FAIL (note spelling!) Dec Qtr 1870 in Belford district.  They had one known child, Alice Fail b. March Qtr 1871. Sadly, James Fail died Dec Qtr 1878 in Morpeth dist.  Sarah Ann subsequently remarried March Qtr 1880 in Morpeth dist. to Robert Brown who was b. abt 1844 in Coxlodge.  I do not know if this couple had any further children and Sarah Ann Percy Fail Brown died Mar Qtr 1902 in Morpeth dist.  Hope this helps.  Pat

Hiya Pat - so Ralph would be with a wife in 1861 census then? Do you know where...and am I covering ground already covered by Mabel? Grin

Still needing to know where where James and Mary were since not with Dad - Robert.

Thanks for the FRAIL info - I'll look into that to.

I suppose I'm back to focusing on the RAY line now.

Thanks
