Hi
I have census records for my ancestor Richard Hall from his birth in Stanningley, Yorkshire in c1866 up to 1881 when he was living with his family in Bolton, Lancashire aged 15. After that he disappears from the English records. I Googled his name as a last resort and came up with this from the cemetery at Marion, Alabama.
'Richard Hall, 1865-1940, b. Stanningley, Yorkshire, England, came to America 1886, vice-pres. Judson College, 1914-1925, minister, teacher'.
I'd love to know if this is my Richard and if anyone knows any more info about him, ie US census returns.
Thanks.
Stephanie

To start with, I found a passport application for Richard Hall of Judson College dated 1922 and he states his father's name as James and that he is deceased. Finding your guy on the 1871, it has his father as James, so there is a very good lead in the right direction. I have found some census records for him I'm happy to share, if you think this is your guy.

OK, I am never very patient and can't wait for a response, so I googled and came up with this link:
http://books.google.com/books?id=nkoUAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA728&lpg=PA728&dq=%22Richard+hall%22+stanningley&source=web&ots=3yZypA7L1K&sig=4s8lxLf8oXB0d-Tj6snNBm_MnyY&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=2&ct=result
This most definitely sounds like your Richard Hall. What a great little bio to have on an ancestor.

I am so glad it's the right guy. With a name like Richard Hall, who knew what you would be able to find out, but that bio explains it all.
So, here are the census records for him:
1900, Florence, Lauderdale, Alabama Hall, Richard, b. July 1865, 34, married 7 years, b. England, parents Eng, immigrated 1886, in country 14 years, naturalized, Baptist preacher Margaret, wife, b. Sept 1864, 35, married 7 years, 3 children, 3 living, b. Alabama, father North Caroline, mother Alabama Eleanor, daughter, b. Aug 1894, 5, b. Tennessee Joseph, son, b. March 1896, 4, b. Tennessee Elizabeth, daughter, b. Oct 1899, b. Alabama
1910, Evergreen, Conecuh, Alabama
Hall, Richard, 44, married 17 years, minister at a Baptist Church Margarette, wife, 45, married 17 years, 4 children, 2 living Eleanor T, daughter, 15 Joseph P.T., son, 14 Mary E., daughter, 6, b. Alabama
1920, Marion, Perry, Alabama
Hall, Richard, 54, teacher, college Margaret, wife, 55 Eleanor T, daughter, 25 Mary Ellis, daughter, 15
1930, Rome, Floyd, Georgia
He is a roomer in the home of Arthur Talmidge Hall, Richard, 64, widowed, age at first marriage 27, born in Yorkshire England, father born in Lancs, mother in York, immigrated in 1886, teacher at a college
And there you have it. I would try contacting the college and see what kind of info they have. Who knows, they might be able to put you in touch with a descendant.
OK, not it. I have found Joseph in Brookline, Massachusetts, in the 1930 census. I think he is a statistician and he is a roomer in Walter Collyers home.

With Shelly's find, I think I found his SSDI. There is a Joseph Hall, born March 6, 1896, died April 1971, in Dade City, Pasco, Florida. From this maybe you can get an obit for him and find living relatives who might be able to fill in gaps in information.

Just looking over this stuff again, I saw that in 1910, I have put that Margaret had 4 children, 2 living, but I go to list 3 children. I went back and looked at the image and it really looks like it could be a 2, but I think it is a 3 with a curl on the end.
glad it's all coming together for you.

One more thing, if you would like a picture of him, there is one with the passport application on Ancestry. PM me with your email address and I will send it to you.
