Hi

Sorry, I should have given you the details of my family (as per 1861 census);

Alexander Fraser (Born about 1822)
Ann Fraser (nee I believe is McDonald) born about 1820
Alexander Fraser born about 1849
John McGregor Fraser born 1850 (McGregor is not stated in the record)
Archilbald Fraser born about 1853
Ann Fraser born about 1855
Mary H Fraser born 1858
William Fraser born about 1860

I believe that John McGregor Fraser travelled to Australia in the 1870's. If there is a family relationship here, some of your family may have also previously travelled to Australia. It could explain what happened to your family. I understand that he first settled in Yarram Yarram, Victoria before finally settling in Tasmania. If your family did travel to Australia, this may be a place to start your enquiries.

It may also explain why my Great Grand Father came to Australia as there does not appear to be any evidence of any of his direct family travelling to Australia and having family here would have made it easier for him to settle. Pure supposition I know but stranger things have happened.

Regards

Ian Fraser

Hi Ian,

Not sure if we have a connection or not, there were a lot of Frasers in Portmahomack. The earliest Fraser I have in my tree is Hugh, father of my Alexander who was born in 1815. There could well be an earlier connection, I haven't yet found out who Hugh's parents were.

I've just found a death on SP for a Hughina Fraser who died in 1855 aged 6, mother's surname was showing as Campbell. Got the right vibes so downloaded the cert. Turns out this is the elusive Duglina so a result.   Grin

I'm not 2 sure if you are tracing the Fraser family, but I'm the great grandson of Flora Fraser (Reid) and I'm currently living in Aberdeen.Scotland.
