1871 census Annie BROOME born 1869 "South Wales" grandaughter living with Grandparents John BROOME and Sarah Anne. I think the possibilites are Maria BROOME born 1846, Jane BROOME 1848 or Lucy BROOME born 1850. NOT Thomas 1843 as I have his children NOT Eliza 1840 or Anne who both married before 1869 Any ideas please? Irene

The only way to be absolutely sure is to get her birth certificate.
Do you have her in the 1881 census to help narrow down place of birth?

Hi Susan and Irene
She's still there in 1881, aged 12, and still b. South Wales:

Haven't found her on the 1891 yet but there is an interesting marriage entry in Madeley - not far from Dawley:
Annie Broome, June Q, 1894, Madeley, vol 6a, Page 1195
Laptop and Firefox seem to be playing up since last update

From the marriage Gadget found, 1901 census has Edward Maiden with wife Annie, her age looks like 21, there's a squiggle over the top could be 31. If she's 21 she would have been aged 14 at marriage Place of birth is given as Dawley as is the rest of the family. RG13/2524/86/12
Have searched birth index 1868-1870 the only plausible one found is Annie Broom Sep. qtr. 1870 Newport Mon., vol. 11a page 171.

Hi Susan
The BMD index site is playing up for me at the moment but I remember seeing a birth reg in Ludlow as well - now I know it's not Wales but it seemed a possible to me - I'm sure some of my family thought Ludlow was part of Wales

The Ludlow birth registered September Q 1869 is perhaps a bit late for a child who is aged 2 on census night 1871?
There is an Ann Broome aged 1 born in Culmington (Ludlow reg district) on 1871 census.

Throwing in possibles:
Marriage - Maria Broome, Dec q, 1870, Bridgenorth, vol 6a page 1228 Possible spouse - Thomas Dovet or Richard Lloyd
no obvious marriages for Jane or Lucy in the area or in South Wales.
