Every time an Angel smiles a flower grows

Frederick William McGuiver
« on: Tuesday 27 March 07 18:34 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help me find Frederick William McGuiver's birth.  He married Selina Young in 1910 at Westhoughton Wesleyan Chapel.  He was aged 26. At the time he was living at 216 Church Street, Westhoughton.  He died on 5th November 1956 in Blackpool aged 74. So there could be a difference of two years for his birth 1881/1884.

On the marriage cert. his father is George William McGuiver deceased occ. Haberdasher.

I cannot find George William or Frederick William on any census.

There could be many varied spellings of the surname, although they were correct on the marriage and death certificates.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards
Su

Hello Su,

I've linked your McGuiver thread on the Co. Monaghan board to this one.

Hi,

This could be his medal card,

I wonder if his records can be found anywhere which might give you some more info.

Gosh I got a shock when I saw this post.  I'd given up on Fred for a while  Cheesy

Christopher thank you.  Did I put a post up on the Co.Monaghan board  Huh  I'll take a look.

Daisy - wow.  Thank you very much for this.  I looked through the national archives for him but couldn't find him, this is great.  Something positive at last.

Many thanks to both of you once again

Su,

I checked through the Westhoughton entries on here a couple of days ago when I first joined the site and found this post asking about the McGuivers.

My mum and her sister lived next door to Fred and Selina`s son, James ( Jim ) and his wife Annie in Chequerbent, a small hamlet and part of Westhoughton.
Fred and Selina lived next door but one to Jim and Annie.

I have a photo of Selina and my aunt taken c1929 that I`ll forward a copy of if you're interested and other info. on Jim`s sister Nellie ( her marriage) and of Jim and Annie. Let me know via pm if you would like the pic and details.

Cheers,
Anne

Edit.
I looked on the Lancs OPC site for Westhoughton and listed in the 1902-4 directory is  Edward Young a provision dealer living at 216 Church Street.
