Does anyone know if there are any opc's for Oakley?
I have Googled but can't find any.

If not, how would I go about asking for someone to look at the parish registers for me (don't know which church).

I am trying to find out who the parents were of Thomas Rose (maybe mistranscribed as Ross) born (according to IGI)
1781 Oakley.  He married a Sarah.

Sorry it's a bit vague.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do you mean 'Church Oakley'?

The entry on the IGI was obviously submitted by a church member who doesn't really seem to have a clue where Thomas was married let alone where he was born or apparently that his surname was Rose not Ross.

The children listed to this couple are

Birth:  About 1825   Oakley, Hampshire
JAMES ROSS

Birth:  About 1829   Oakley, Hampshire

Birth:  About 1832   Oakley, Hampshire
WILLIAM ROSS

Some of these children seem to correspond to this family group in Church Oakley on the 1841 census all born Hampshire

Adult ages on the 1841 census, those over 15, are usually rounded down to the nearest 5.

On the 1851 census the children's mother is Hannah and the father is Thomas junior as shown from the baptisms at Church Oakley.

e.g.

Baptism
22nd June 1834
William Rose
Thomas and Hannah

Other than Thomas and Hannah's children and their baptisms begin in Church Oakley in 1827 there are no earlier Rose or Ross baptisms in Church Oakley between 1752 and 1827.

Thank you very much for your replies Pauline and Valda.

The sites will be very helpful Pauline.

I did find those entries on the IGI Valda, but didn't have the 1841 which is super, thank you very much for that, and thank you for the note about there being no other baptisms in Church Oakley between 1752 abd 1817, that has saved me a lot of trouble.

I don't know why these people put entries on the IGI if they aren't sure of their facts.  They can be extremely misleading at times.
