Where has he gone ...?
« on: Sunday 06 July 08 20:03 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find the whereabouts of an ELIJAH SMITH.  He was born in Kington, circa 1866. Roll Eyes

He is shown on the 1871 and 1881 census returns, with his Parents, John & Elizabeth.

After that he seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth!  I can't even find a death entry for him - anywhere !!!

This Smith family moved around a bit .... or so it seems.  A lot of the birth entries on the BMD sites seems to show Presteigne as the POB .... the borders for Hereford/Wales and the Marches is very confusing - for me anyway  Huh Roll Eyes

If anyone has any suggestions, it would be most appreciated.

I have had the SMITH indexes from the KFHS and they were FAB! Now just need to fit in the pieces.  I think I need a miracle ....

Thanks oodles ....

I tried 1901 and no luck. Cant find a death for him either Huh

Do you think he may have gone abroad ?

After checking on FMP  i have found this but cant be sure its your Elijah

Name                Elijah Smith
Departed          13 May 1913
From                  Liverpool
Destination         Quebec Canada
D O B                  1866 ( calculated from age )
Age                     47, married, occ printer

Went on the ship called Megantic, bound for Montreal, Canada

There is also a Eli W Smith left on 18 Sep 1909 from Liverpool to New York.
It gives no dob but he is single and occ is coachman. He was on a ship called Lusitania.
None of these may be him but thought id post incase.
