Those elusive McCues
« on: Sunday 06 July 08 22:01 BST (UK) »

Would so appreciate a fresh perspective on what I'm researching, I feel tied up in knots !
Starting at latest date I have 2 certificates in the family that relate to John McCue.

His marriage certificate in Paisley in 1919 gives his age as 31 -there is no entry for father suggesting  that he was illegitimate, his mothers name is Annie McCue (deceased)

Now going back to his birth certificate for 8th Oct 1888 again at Paisley his fathers name is John McCue and his mother Marjory McCue m.s. McLauchlan, their date of marriage is shown as 1st Jan 1888 Paisley.

I have found that record on Scotlandspeople and John McCue was 28 and Marjory 25 .
Marjory's mother is shown as Mary dec'd

After that I cannot find any trace of JohnMcCue senior or his wife Marjory.
There is an entry on the 1891 Census for Paisley for John McCue aged 3 born 1888.
However he is shown with Annie mCCue aged 21.
They are both shown as boarders staying with Thomas McLachlan (head aged 71) and his wife who is listed as Mrs McLachlan who is 55.

Annie can't be another name for Marjory (can it) as the ages don't tally.Marjory would be 28 now.
In 1901 John McCue is still at Paisley but living with his grandmother Ann McCue aged 60 from Ireland, but according to the marriage record his maternal grandmother has already died
I cannot see deaths of John's parents John and Marjory - so what could have happened.
Did they abandon him?
I have found Marjory McLauchlin on the 1881 census - she was born at Stranraer Wigtown, but she is living with her grandmother whose name is Margaret McLauchlin aged 65 born Kirkcolm Wigtown,

Can anyone kindly suggest any leads that might be useful please?
thank you
Sandyq

Hi Sandra  Smiley

I had a look for this family after  you posted on the other thread but, like you,  I couldn't find anything on the later censuses or deaths for them.

It might be worth trying to find a death or it could be that the John that you have found is another John. Have you found any other birth certs for a probable one, son of Ann McCue or even death certs?

It seems strange that they all seem to have disappeared with no record of deaths. Maybe they emigrated or moved to England/Ireland.

I'll have a look around again for them.

There is a birth reg, Paisley, 5th May 1887 for a John McCue, illegitimate. Mother Rose Ann McCue, a threadmill worker.

I think you have mixed up the two.

Regards

Hi Gadget,

the birth certificate for John McCue (1888) whose parents are John and Marjory  has been in the family for donkeys years so it's definitely him that I'm looking for (if that makes sense!)

Hi Sandra

I don't doubt it - i've seen it - I checked it on SP  -  but the one that I've just found is the one of the John who's mother is Ann. There were 3 John McCue's b. Paisley 1887-1888:

One to John and Marjory
One to an Owen McCue and wife (can't remember the name now)
and
One to Rose Ann McCue.

gadget,

You are right !!

There is a death of John McCue 1889 and I have just looked it up and he is the son of John and Marjory - he died aged 9 months from teething complications.

So all those years ago someone got hold of the wrong certificate.

Making sense now - looks like he was the illegit. son of Rose Ann McCue (annie)

Looks like I'll be up a few hours more..going down that route now.

Many thanks
