COMPLETED - Badier - NZ to Australia. 1882-1884
« on: Monday 07 July 08 09:22 BST (UK) »

I have Three Badier's in Australia.

Ada married Alexander Pratt, in Sydney in 1888.

Phillip is listed on in the 1887 Sands Directory.

Marie second marriage 1884 - Ada and Phillip were present at this marriage.

They arrived in NZ in 1874, Marie was 11, Phillip 10 and Ada 6.

There is no indication of a mother coming with them. I am sure she married John Bellet in NZ. I am guessing that her children came over, alone.

What a would like to find is a passenger list with them on it. I have searched the NSW shipping site and no Badiers are listed, as yet. I've also checked the Victorian Government site. Not there either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I believe it is his mother.

I have the marraige certificate and although it does not prove it is her, the time frame and place of birth fits.

Thanks for your interest.

Thanks to a reply on the NZ board we can narrow things from 1880 to 1884.

Philip had advertised his photographic services and was in business with another, in 1880.

More interesting though, is the abduction and marriage of Mary Ann (Marie), at age 15, in NZ, by a sailor known as Frederick Dugruski. She was married in Australia twice!

Marie married for the 2nd time in Sydney in 1884. So, we can place her here between 1880 and 1884. I will assume she came over with her brother and sister.

It appears that their mother died in 1879.

Now highly likely they travelled between after May 22, 1882.

Hi

So is this the same Marie Badier HERVEY who married George C. REDMAN in Queensland in 1882 ?

[There doesn't appear to be a     There is no marriage for Marie BADIER on the New Zealand marriage index ?    DUGRUSKI (and variants, checked),  also HERVEY and BADIER (cross-checked) ].

As far as I can tell she was never a Hervey. Goodness knows why she would say it was her father's name. It is believed she's the same person.

There is a marriage registered in NZ for a Marie - Mary Ann -  Badier, but it's her mother who married John Bellet.

I bet that our sailor Mr Dugruski did a bunk on the first shop to pass by.

Marie Junior married Redman and then Thomas Hamilton Foster.

It is me posting on both sites, so you don't need to duplicate things.

Thanks for your interest.

I'm not duplicating anything !     It is you who has three threads running currently, on basically the same subject !   Perhaps it's worth considering locking this, or another of the threads.   Huh

Hi there,

Thanks Lu,

I have posted on the NZ and Australia site, as I'm sure not everyone looks at both.

So, for those looking at this now, this thread was started to  find Marie/Mary Ann, Phillip and Ada Badier on a shipping list, sailing from NZ to Australia.

It is now narrowed down to May 1982 - 1984

No other information is required on this thread.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
