In the 1881 cencus the children from the 1871 cencus that Carol found are both in the Merchant Seaman Orphanage Asylum in Wanstead-Essex

1881 Cencus-James Bramley Nunn
RG11/1729/87/8

1881 Cencus-William Cousins Nunn
RG11/1729/88/10

Jane

It very much looks like that they give all their kids a surname as a middle name.
I think now we know that we might be able to find out who,Mullett and Cousins are......probably grandparents on one of the sides.
It's obvious who Bramley is......mum  Wink

Hi
Dad's family is to blame for the middle surnaming!

He is James Goodwin Nunn son of possible Robert Rycroft Nunn m.Mercy (Payton?) Pity it wasn't Mullett!

James Bramley Nunn, Sarah Eliza Mullett Nunn's brother was named from James Goodwin Nunn 's wife (their mother) Maria/Mary Ann Bramley.

Where Cousins comes from??? Maybe Mary Bramley's mother???
Samuel Bramley m. Maria unknown (Huh Cousins???)

Marion as far as I know ( Sarah Eliza Mullett Nunn's sister) didnt receive a surname middle name.

Cheers

In 1891 they are here.....

RG12/ 284 Folio 107  Page 18

16 Stutfield Street,St George in east.

Maria Nunn head widow 60 laundress b Shoreditch
James Nunn 22 son seaman (assistant steward) b St Georges
William Nunn 20 son compositor printer b         "
Marion Nunn 18 dau packer in factory b "

Next I will try and follow Maria back to see where the middle name links come from.Haven't found an obvious one between anyone in the family and the Mullett's born in Essex yet.

Unless of course they weren't blood relations, but just that John Mullett the mariner worked with Sarah's dad and she just called them aunt and uncle.

Where has Sarah's middle name of Eliza suddenly come from Shocked
She wasn't registered as such.

Hi

I was passed on Mercy Nunn's burial records:

Spelt Mearcy Nunn abode Harwich Essex buried 4 Dec 1860  St Nicholas Harwich Essex aged 64
Have John Mullett 's death certificate today and he was a Master mariner and his nephew was Sarah Mullett Nunn's husband Edward Thomas Hayes so maybe Sarah and Emily Mullett were  Hayes???

Have cert copy  birth cert of Sarah Nunn.

Number 232 born 7 Aug 1867 2 Princes Square
Sarah Eliza Mullett Nunn
girl
Father James Goodwin Nunn Merchant Sevice Seaman
Mother Maria Nunn formally Bramley

Registered 3 Sept 1867
Baptised name  if added after Reg. of Birth : Sarah Mullett

Found an old greeting card to Sarah Hayes nee Nunn and it was signed Love Auntie Emily and Alice.
Could be Emily Mullett?Huh

Any one getting any closer?

Cheers

"Cousins" Could someone please assist with the maiden name of James Goodwin Nunn's mother?
Are his parents Robert Rycroft Nunn and Mearcy/Mercy/Mary unknown ? Payton???

Mullett is the other dark sheep.

Amongst the info I was passed on with had John Mullett 's death certificate? Why ? Must be related somewhere?

Cheers

I think I've found Mary Bramley in 1861-the writing is atrocious  Shocked
She has been transcribed as Mumbly, and the Game's as Zame.

RG9/258  Folio: 15 Page: 54

At 86 Bethnal Green Road,Bethnal Green  Wink

William C Heynes head 55 letter carrier( ME?) b St lukes Middx
Mary wife 54(can't read her occ-maybe someone can?) no place of birth written
Henry son 14 scholar b Shoreditch
Maria Mullet or Mallett 9 grandaughter scholar b Minories Middx
William Game son in law 28 letter carrier b essex
Sarah Game marr daughter 18 b Minories
Maria Bramley lodger unm 30 needlewoman b Shoreditch

Possibly a link there between Mullett and Bramley?

Regards
