I wonder if anyone reading this has connections to the Beaty family mostly from Fife area . I would be glad to hear from you & probably share some information
If you think you have a connection of any kind please feel free to contact me
My fathers Name was Walter Alexander Swan Beaty married to Margaret Lowe both born in Dunfermline, Margaret’s father John Lowe owned Whyte & Company , Music Sellers, Bonnar St, Dunfermline.
The Swan connection comes from Cannobie on the borders
Margaret then remarried a Ken Douglas from Dunfermline, son of the late Dr Douglas
My Grandfather Alexander Swan Beaty was Station Master at Dunfermline Upper station around 1897
After his first wife from Cumbria died ,he remarried a Euphemia Brown of Crail, our family of Brown in Crail goes back to 1745 & also includes the surname Edmond who married a Euphemia Clark McDonald
There was a George Swan Beaty, who stayed in Frederick Cresent Dunfermline who had a family
His father was George Swan Beaty who had a family in Thornton in the early 1900s.He originated from Cumbria, as did others of the family who moved to the Fife area.
It appears they flitted back & forth across the border on a regular basis from the Longtown Authuret area, usally to find a wife
A wise choice i would say
Researching Allan [ Dunfermline], Beaty [ Dunfermline] Brown & Mc Donald [ Crail ] Edmond Crail ,Cupar,Fife area. Baty [Artheret, Longtown & Bewcastle Cumbria]

Hi ron81,
I see you haven't had any responses - that's unusual on RC
This reply will bring it up to the top of the board and show it as 'new'
Is there anything in particular that you are hoping to find out?
Heaps of RootsChatters are only too eager to try to solve challenges
Best regards,
JAP

Hi JAP..
Thank you for placing this again to the top of the board, that was a very kind gesture & much appreciated
Yes i know it is unusual not to get replies, as i have had some wonderful help in other areas from the board. I thank them for that I saw many also read the thread, i hope they found it of interest, as i find other treads are
I was rather hoping to find any relations in the Fife area, especially Dunfermline & Crail area? I am pretty sure there must be relations in the Dunfermline area somewhere, they obviously dont read the Chat boards
My father Walter Beaty fell out it appears with most, if not all of his family, believe it or not , over his fathers will!!!
When his sister Magdalaine & her husband Robert Steel , ex bank manager Crail, was left most of the estate, yes sad i know.
I am unsure if my Father , Walter Beaty, ever knew about relations that moved from Cumbria to Fife
Also David Edmond, my Great Grandfather, who was the mail contractor & ran daily , i believe from Crail to St Andrews, he originally came from Cupar where his Father had a Hotel & also ran the mail contract
Also interested in any Browns of Crail,, My Crail connection goes back to Thomas Brown,, married to Margaret Lyel my 5th Gt Grandfather ,born 1745
Again if anyone has any information about Alexander McDonald of Crail, my Gt Gt Grandfather , who was born in Opinan, Gairloch, lost at sea in 1845, His body was , we were told, was brougth back to Crail , with another 4 bodies, unsure if the rest were from Crail area however Sounds like part of a fishing crew, as he was sometime a fisherman & sometime Sailor
Alexanders parents were Donald McDonald & Elizabeth Brown,Alexander married my Gt Gt Grand mother Madalaine Clark McDonald in 1827
If anyone has any information of Donald McDonald & Elizabeth Brown of Opinan, Gairloch, in the Highlands, who were Alexanders parents, although not married . I would be very grateful
I have tried every way i can to find any information on Alexander McDonald, although buried in Crail, according to the Sexton books of Death.
I can find no headstone..I have been through the bowels of the Uni at St Andrews, the staff i found so very helpful in every way
But after searching newspapers of the time, Council Records Fishing Museum etc etc, i have hit a wall..I find it hard to believe that no further record of Alexander exists, it is so frustrating,
I expect many on here will of been in the same position, thanks again for allowing me to highlight this Kind Regards Ron81

Hi Diddymiller My apologies
I have got myself confused now
Senior moments seem to happen more often now I am sure it goes like this
Brown SideThomas Brown married 1745? to Margaret Lyel son:-
James Brown married 1791 ? Madalaine Clark son:-
John Brown [Carrier] married Elizabeth Brown around 1791 they had a daughter Euphemia who married Alexander McDonald
On the 1841 census.Parish number 417 Alex McDonald 40 .Shoregate.Crail Fisherman Betsie McDonald 13 Euphemia 35 Euphemia 5 Magdalane 2
They had a daughter Madalaine Clark McDonald b1839 , who married David Edmond
They had a daughter Euphemia McDonald Edmond who married my Grandfather Alexander Swan Beaty, it was his second wife, his 1st marraige was to a Mary Jefferson who died in Crail not long after having a son Joseph, they were returned to be buried in Cumberland
The Edmond side my 4th grand father David a joiner, married to a Isabel Hayne or Hain in , i think Damhead?,Cupar my 3rd Gt Grandfather David Edmond , Hotel Keeper married a Janet Pryde my 2nd Gt Grandfather another David Edmond who married Magdaline Clark Mcdonald in 1866 in Crail but there could be a Kennoway area connection i have not investigated as yet
There Daughter Euphemia married Alexander Swan Beaty my Grand father
I spent a day at the Museum & found them very helpfull, but they have little in the way of records it seems
I did find a grave in the Church yard for David Edmond & Madalaine Clark McDonald , no grave for Alexander McDonald however although it states in the Sexton Records he is buried in Crail
In the new cemetary the headstone of my Grandfather has actually gone missing for some reason as well, so i wll need to contact Fife Council to see why
Thank you for your help & for pointing out my mistake Kind Regards ron81
