Hello everyone would like to know more information on the late William Sorrel he married a Sarah? his daughter Ann Sorrel married a William John Norris on 29/8/1844. Anybody familiar with this family from Cheshunt Hertford mainly Sarah's family? any help is always greatly appreciated.  Cry

Hi Jan,
William and Sarah SORRELL appear on the 1841 census ref HO107/444/11 F.44  P.14/15 at Cheshunt with nine children, but not  Ann.    There are two entries in the Herts Burial Index 1800-1850 which may be of interest viz. Sarah  age 58 01Feb1851 and Charlotte age 15 01Dec1844 both at St.Marys Cheshunt.

Hello peter, thanks for your help I have the 1841 census for the family and it shows that Sarah, William's wife was 45 at this time and yet she passed away on the 1/2/1851 aged 58, is their another Sarah? Huh where do I look for their marriage date Undecided I have no idea where Ann Sorrell was for this 1841 census she may have been away, according to her age at marriage which was (20years in 1844) she would have been only 17years old for the 1841 Census. Ann may have been with her future husband the late William John Norris. Have a good weekend. Wink

The first child of William and Sarah's 14 children was baptised in Cheshunt in 1813 the last in 1835 (so 58 would be a much more realistic age for Sarah in 1851 - the 1841 census in particular is unreliable for exact ages. William's age in 1841 was given as 45 and in 1851 it was 61 - the 1841 census usually rounded down adult ages, those people over 15, to the nearest 5)

The IGI produces a possibility in London.

Hi Jan,

Adult ages in the 1841 census were rounded down to the nearest 5 so Sarah could have been 48 at the time.  The 1851 records William as a widower.
