coincidence?
« on: Wednesday 09 July 08 21:47 BST (UK) »

Well i have been researching or trying to research my 2 x great grandfathers family Thomas Bentley

i have discovered lots wth help from Rootschat  Grin

he [Thomas]  was born in 1841 (after the census) in the workhouse at Greengate Salford, his father was a solider , Robert and his mother Elizabeth nee Ryder from Ireland  Roll Eyes

by 1851 Elizabeth had remarried - i say remarried a marriage was never found , so i do not have Robert on any census

Robert was a soilder at Thomas birth and a  Printer on his marriage cert but not decased, this led me to speculate that Elizabeth may have believed that Robert had been missing in action or something and set up home with her new man but never married him as she was still legally married to Robert, anyhow this is all speculation so back to the main point of this thread

Thomas marriage cert gives a witness of William Holmes,
a William Holmes married a Sarah Ann Bentley in Halifax on 7th Oct 1861
but her father is listed as Daniel Bentley Stone Delv...

for info Thomas was married 25 Dec 1867 in Bradford

I have not found Sarah Ann Bentley on the census either with my Thomas, Elizabeth Thomas' mother or with her [Sarah's] father Daniel.

Sarah Ann was aged 22 at time of marriage thus making her born circa 1839

a Daniel Bently was a witness at Sarah Anns wedding

i do not have the workhouse register to see if Sarah appears in same with Elizabeth and / or Thomas

Sarah was not of Halifax at the time of her marriage and Thomas although he married in Bradford (and gave his address as Bradford) he was born in Salford
Sarhas addres is hard to read but her Groom - William Holmes was living at Briers Court, Halifax and Sarah says Delf Hole North...... it looks like Northowrano  Undecided

so do you guys think there is a connection between Sarah & Thomas or not?

or is it just coincidence?

Daniel and Esther are still at Windmill Field (not Hill as in last post), Northowram in 1851, but Sarah is not with them:

Class: HO107; Piece: 2302; Folio: 512; Page: 4

Sarah is with her parents in 1861 at Delph hole, Northowram

Class: RG9; Piece: 3303; Folio: 66; Page: 15

If Daniel is perhaps Robert's brother the IGI has nothing helpful. Daniel was born in Southowram.

Hi Galium than you for replying and finding Sarah on the census i could not spot her, I didn't know that Northowarm was a place - excuse my ignorance - as the only info. i have for Robert comes form his sons birth and marriage cert it is making it very hard to find out his relatives.

the only possible connection i could see was at first a sister for Thomas and then after the receipt of Sarah's marriage cert. a cousin with both their [Thomas & Sarah] fathers being brothers as you also think is the only possible connection.
