Hello birth certificate will give mothers maiden name. Could it be Dodson?

Frederick Dodson Pitts born Mar quarter 1860 Hull Yorkshire/East Yorkshire/Humberside 9d 224

Do you have them on the 1851 and 61 census ? father was a Brickmaker Journeyman and then a Coal Dealer

Hi

Just wondered if you had seen this?

The Hull Packet and East Riding Times (Hull, England), Friday, May 22, 1857
Death
May 18, in this town, aged 4½, Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of John Pitts, coal dealer, Moxon Street

Presumably this must have been a sister of Frederick but of course she wouldn't have appeared on a Census.

Hi again,

Not sure if this has anything to do with your John Pitts but what I have found is:

The Hull Packet (Hull, England), Friday, December 17, 1841
On Tuesday, the 7th inst, at North Cave, by the Rev. Mr. Grant, Mr John Pitts, second son of Wm Pitts, of Newport to Miss Elizabeth Vollans, only daughter of the late Mr John Vollans, Brewer of this town.

The marriage was on FreeBMD but the wife's name was given as Elizabeth Woolas just to confuse matters.

On the 1841 Census John Pitts was living at home in Gilberdike (Newport is the next village to it where he was born) & his father was called William.

There is a death for an Elizabeth Pitts in the Howden District Apr/Jun 1846 - could this be her & he has remarried?

There was a Marriage for a John Pitts & a Sarah Webster at Holy Trinity Church, Hull in Jul/Sep 1847.

On the 1841 Census was a Sarah Webster who was a servant in the Holy Trinity District in Hull & was 'born out of County'.

Maybe I am just way off the mark but it would fit.

Found a marriage for John Pitts son:

The Hull Packet and East Riding Times (Hull, England), Friday, January 22, 1869
Marriage
Pitts- Marshall – January 3rd, at Holy Trinity Church, Hull, by the Rev. Canon Brooke, Mr John Pitts, jnr, coal dealer, to Miss Ann Marshall, both of this town.

Forgot to say on the last post that on the 1841 both John & his father William's occupations were Brickmakers.

Gill,

I think you are close to mark but I am beginning to think that Fredrick's mum was a Sarah Masterman and they were married in Knaresborough.  I will post Masterman and see what comes up.
Thank you for your help I really appreciate someone taking an interest.
