Just tried to register, but got an error message.  HOWEVER, I've had a look at the Site Tour and they are pretty clear about what is and is not on the site (despite the typos!).  They say the years 1866-1920 and 1984-2002 are fully transcribed and 1921-1983 are partially transcribed - perhaps they mean partially INDEXED, which is why some of you can't find yourselves?

In principal, I object to the pay-per-view sites, but in this instance the dates that are fully transcribed contain some of my brick walls, so I will give it a go when I can get registered and see how it fares compared to 1837online.

well as my grandparents were born in1881 and 1885 they should be on but they are not .
also as my son was married in 1999 they should be on and they are not  my mother was born in 1919 and she is not on
so dont know how they say it is fully trancribed as  i have found  this not to be the case
hope you have more luck than me .also buying units seems a task in its self some times it lets you and other tomes says not available.

The free search for 1921-1983 doesn't even produce results for the surname and forename you type in.

Then look at their site tour where they give an example of searching for John Murray. The result... no John Murray. Look at line 3 on this James Murray to the left, George Musgarve to the right. What do you get if you click the view image icon?

Not very promising so far

John Murrey is between James Murrey and George Musgrove, If you click on the image I presume you get a list of names starting with James Murrey and ending with George Musgrove with John Murrey somewhere in between.

Okay then, I'll be the first person to post something nice about this website  Wink

I subscribed a couple of days ago and have found it to be most useful for 1866-1920, finding every entry I have been looking for. As far as I can tell, there is no need to view the actual image for searches within this period (unless you want to confirm that the GRO reference has been transcribed correctly before sending for a certificate etc).

The marriage searches are not as friendly as they could be - there is no facility to enter both partners names like there is on FreeBMD for instance (apart from after 1912, when I assume the maiden name started appearing on the actual indexes). I am surprised by this - it would be very easy for them to implement this on a transcribed database, simply having to match two GRO references.

Outside the years 1866-1920 it works out cheaper to use www.1837online.com (where it costs 10p per image viewed rather than 20p)

But overall it has been a good six quid spent, and a great aid for my family research!  Grin

Hello all.
Received a message today (24th March 2005) from Familyrelatives saying something along the lines of that 'the databases are now fully searchable' etc. Is this announcement accurate, as it seems to me (from what I've been reading here) as if visitors to the site have been fully capable of searching the site prior to this message being sent out? Was the information available before today only partially complete, or something?

Ryan.

You received this message because you have bought units, correct? I haven't needed to purchase any yet, so I am not familiar with this email. I have just recalled that I submit my email address to the site so I would be informed of status changes or new developments.

Oh well, it's not that important anyway Roll Eyes

I haven't bought any credits from them, Just registered with them before they went live.
They in fact sent me 2 different e-mails today both including the offer.
One of them does sound like the welcoming e-mail i would of expected a couple of months ago when they first went on-line but didn't receive which has put me off them a bit.

I received the same message as Steve, but I also haven't bought any credits before - in fact I couldn't even remember the site at first because I registered with them, didn't hear anything, forgot all about them!

I read the post about the Family Relatives site with interest and decided to give it a try.  I was able to register and purchase credits.  I found a few of the names in the 1866-1920 section that I had not been able to find in the FreeBMD which was marvelous.

When I looked for a woman's marriage I found it interesting that a lot of the woman who popped up had the husband's last name listed next to theirs.

Overall it was fairly well done and I can't wait for 1837-65 to come online so I can find some more elusive relations.

just to say, I've used the site & purchased credits with no problem. However I do think the only useful function is the 1866-1920 search facility - but once you've done the selection it's cheaper to use www.1837online to view the index image. The main benefit is being able to select using mother's maiden  name / spouse's name - but that's only relevant from 1911/1912.

Does anyone know when either; the 1921 to 1983 ( or any later year) is going to have this same filter functionality, or when the 1837 - 65  "coming soon" for some time now !!! Roll Eyes Cry  is going to be available Huh
