Hello any of you good people who may have access to Parish Register details for Cottered, Hertfordshire. I wonder if you would be kind enough to check to see if a marriage took place there between
John CAIN and Betsey PAGE the expected date is somewhere between 1854 and 1861.
I may be barking up the wrong tree but I believe these two people married between those dates. John was born in Codicote and Betsey in Cottered. Since the marriage doesn't appear to be in Codicote I'm wondering if it was in the bride's parish.
They made their home in Stevenage so I suppose there is a chance it took place there.
I have just searched the marriage index images and discovered that the marriage took place in 1854 - the reference number for Betsy hasn't been transcribed, or maybe not correctly and so the names haven't matched up.
The details are Q3 1854 3a 261 District Royston - does this help identify where the marriage might have taken place please.
Thank you for any help.
Mary

You can search for the GRO page on freebmd.
Betsy (no E) is at page 200 in the "P" pages. http://images.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/choose.pl

As given above, I have searched the images and found the match. I was hoping that the details I gave The details are Q3 1854 3a 261 District Royston
will enable somebody to pinpoint where the marriage might have taken place.

Big NO. It'll only pin it down to the GRO registration district.

One more additional detail, just after the 1861 census there is a death which I believe would be Betsey's father, Registration District of Royston. They were living in Cottered in the 1861 census, also the birthplace they give.
This coincides with the marriage DISTRICT of Royston. So what I'm hoping is that somebody may have access to the Cottered Parish Registers to see if the marriage is listed in there. It does seem to make sense. The reason for providing the year and quarter details if to make less of a search if my request is able to be answered.
Thanks for your advice.

Thanks for those links Annie, yes they appear to be the right family, although I'm not really interested in following up on the Pages, just the confirmation of the marriage to John Cain who was cousin to one of my Cains. He was a farrier in earlier censuses and probably extended his work to become the local vet, maybe not being properly registered.
Since the Occupations post was responded to this year, I may reply and see if she got any information about whether he was registered or not.
Thanks for your interest
