Could someone check the 1841 census records for Daniel Devine. I am stuck with this portion of my tree. Per 1881 census, Daniel was born in 1828-1830, Newton on Ayr. I can't find a birth cert on SP though. He was married to Jane (Jean) Cleland in Lanark in 1850. He was a labourer / chemical worker. His father's name was David. I don't know his mother's name. Therein lies the problem. In SP there are 3 Daniels within the age group, but none with David. (I dont have him in 1841, 1851, 1861 or 1871, but the 1841 is pre-marriage and I am ultimately looking for info on his parents. From there I can try additional searches to try to confirm his parents). Any help and other suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. McCann

Hi McCann,
I have Devine's in my tree, and I know the difficulty tracing them, I have my relatives transcribed as Devine, Divine, Divens and others I can't think of just now.
In 1851, at Huntington Place, Glasgow as a Labourer Chemical work,
Daniel Divine 28 b 1823 Kilmarnock Jane Divine 29 b 1822 Glasgow Ann Divine 6 b 1845 Glasgow Alexander Divine 4 b 1847 Glasgow

Hello McCann,
An easy hit to find his parents is to get a copy of his death entry - which hopefully will give both parents names and mothers maiden name, unless you you have it already? If he was alive in '81 - can you post with whom and where. If someone can then provide '91 and '01 census details we can narrow down the window of death for searching for an extract on SP.
Regards, Steve :O)

Hi Tom: Thank you for the info. This is definitely my family. Did you happen to find these simply for my purposes or are they part of your family tree as well?
If you remember, a while back we seemed to have a connection but couldn't figure it out. Your Agnes Divens McIntyre (or Frew) who married Robert Paterson could possibly be a sister of Jane Devine b. 1857 who coincidently married Walter Paterson. This Jane is the daughter of Daniel and Jane about which I inquired. Jane (the mother) had a sister Elizabeth Frew. I can't quite figure it out though.
However, if this 1851 census Divine family is yours, we do have a connection. Let me know. Thanks again.

Hi Steve. Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, on Daniel's death cert. his mother's name is unknown - written as two blank lines and I have been unable to locate his birth cert. This 1851 census shows his birth as 1822-1824 Kilmarnock (which I will look into), but his death cert and 1881 census both show it as 1828-1830, Newton on Ayr. In the 1881 census, he was at 1 Huntingdon Place, Glasgow, Lanark: Daniel Devine, 52, birthplace Newton, Ayr Jane Cleland, wife, 60; Thomas, son, 25; William, son, 29; and James Peterson, nephew, 5. Thanks again. McCann

Tom: Just to see, I ran a search in the 1871 census on SP. Agnes Devine (Divens and Divine didn't work), age 4-6, second name Eliza (Elizabeth didn't work) and there does happen to be one entry. It also happens to be from Lanark County. Do you have the means to check this 1871census info. Perhaps we can confirm that my Elizabeth Devine Frew is mother to your Agnes Divins Frew McIntyre.
Maybe I am a step ahead of myself though. Do you have info on Agnes' parents? Her birth or death cert? Do you know if her mother is Elizabeth?

Hi McCann,
Sorry about the delay, work has been interfering with my leisure. I am sure families are connected, but I have not got the proof yet.
I have attached her birth certificate but it does not include Frew, I have also attached her son's, my Grandad's birth certificate, and her middle name is Devine
I will add her death certifcate on new reply.
I tried apply attachments but failed

Hi McCann,
Here is Agnes's death certificate, she died in 1944 in a house fire, I beleive but death certiucate was not signed as such. Supposed natural causes does not seem correct. I was not born then and no one left on that side of family to ask.

I am still looking for a little help to try and find the 1841 census for Daniel and David Devine (Divine). I couldn't find anything in SP. Can anyone help me please? I have Daniel born in about 1823 or 1829, Newton on Ayr or Kilmarnock. He is married by 1851 and living in Lanark. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Still looking for a little info for the Devines/Divines. Could someone check the 1861 and 1871 census info for me. Looking for Daniel (b. 1823-1829) and Jane (born 1821). Their children are Ann (b. 1845), Alexander (b. 1847), Thomas (b. 1856), William (b. 1852). Should be at Huntingdon Place in Lanark. Mostly, I am looking to confirm birth info for Daniel - I have been unable to locate birth record. Thank you very much. McCann
