« on: Tuesday 15 July 08 05:31 BST (UK) »

Hi Bellbird  would like some help or suggestions for the abovenamed.
Only info I have is they had a son Andrew born on 23/4/1820 at Bilston Staffordshire (a miner) who in 1842 married Ellen Barnes and on 25/12/1849 married Martha Wilkinson formerly Martha Hadley. They were married at St Thomas, Dudley, Staffordshire.  Hope someone out there has some ideas.
Thanks in anticipation

Hiya Bellbird

Welcome to Rootschat!

Andrew was baptised on 23.4.1820 at St Leonards Bilston

This then gets a little confusing

On the 1841 there is a George and Mary Bond living in Wolverhampton with children Mary and Edmund but George is a tinplate worker. There is also a lot of other siblings on FreeREG

But Andrews father was a miner and he was baptised in Bilston and the families place of abode was Bilston and looking at the transcribed records on Wolverhampton Archives site that is the only baptism for George and Mary (There is one for a Mary Ann child of Jonathon and Elizabeth Bond 29.5.1814 - possible brother of George)

I think we might have two different George and Marys

Andrew in the 1841 also has a George aged 15 living with him in the same household - his brother? and he was born not in county

On the 1861 there is a George aged 25 b West Brom whos a bricklayer and prisoner in Stafford jail

Whheee!

cant find him in 1861 but in 1871 we have at Oldbury Road, West Bromwich

George Bond 46 head M b Gresal? Lane Derbyshire
Mary Bond 36 wife M b Sea Brook Staffordshire
Ellen Massey? 1 neice b Greets Green Staffordshire
Mary Sanford 86 mother widow b Gresal Lane Derbyshire

RG10/2982 Folio 49 Page 4

It looks like Andrews parents originate from Derbyshire

regarding the above couple, Willow and Jackie I've discovered George Bonds too, outside Staffordshire but none of the dates seem to tie up.  As Andrew was born/christened 1820 I feel his parents would most likely been married around the 1815 to 1819 mark, all I've found don't fit in with that sort of date.   Willow I wasn't aware of Andrew's father being a coalminer, I knew Andrew was said to be one.  Jackie the George and Mary you found I feel might be as bit too early at 1802.  Does Staffordshire have OPCsite?  These couple aren't as far back as I thought, as Andrew who had two wives 3 children from Ellen Barnes and 8 from Martha Wilkinson (previously Hadley).  Of this last marriage two children, John and Joseph Hadley (my grandfather) travelled to NZ independently, Joseph Hadley bringing Martha his mother then aged 60 with him.  Maybe Andrews Christening records mights have more info about George and Mary.  Hope you have an idea or two that might help.    Bellllbird

Hello Bellbird.

A George Bond + Mary Bell were marr.24 July 1817 at
Heanor Derby.

Have you any info from Andrews Marriages eg.fathers name
+ occupation?

Andrews siblings?

Re date of A's parents marriage, he may have been the
youngest- so possible parents marr.could have been earlier
than  you think. ( just my thoughts)

Hiya Bellbird

Andrews baptism records are transcribed on FreeREG http://freereg.rootsweb.com/cgi/Search.pl and Wolverhampton Archives http://www.wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk/resources/familyhistory

Although its always better to look at the orginal I really dont think they will have much more information

hi jackie and willow  Thanks for your responses.  Only info I has is a part family tree which only refers to the son Andrew, yes it does say he was christened in Bilston Staffordshire and says he was a coalminer.   I haven't got any info about his parents other than they were George and Mary Bond.  However I seem to have gathered somewhere that Andrew died at Dudley in 1870 aged 56 and a ref 6c 26.  If he is the only son he was more prolific than his parents, by first wife Ellen Barnes married 1842 and died New Town West Bromich 1/7/1849 his children were George 1842 (died 1843), Ambrose 1/3/1844 married 29/9/1872 St Thomas Dudley, wife Elizabeth Gayman nee Clarke no death date, Ellen2/7/1846 no death date George James 1849 died 1849.  He married Martha Wilkinson formerly Hadley 25/12/1849 St Thomas Dudley she died in NZ 14/12/1888.  At Dunedin.  They had 8 children, Martha b 1850 d 1854 Henry No b d 22/7/1852, John b 1853 arrived NZ 26/2/1879 m Lavinia 1891 he d 1937. Andrew b 1856 d 1862 Joseph b 1858 d 1858, Mary Matilda b 1860 d 1862 Joseph Hadley (my g'father) b 21/4/1864Tipton arrived NZ with his widowed mother 26/6/1883  m 3/8/1887 d 18/9/1940 and lastly Ellen b 1866 d 1868.  The next generation of 13 children included my father Joseph.  Hope this helps, maybe Andrew died at Tipton.  Bellbird

Hello Bellbird
I think I'm going to add to the confusion, but stress
that these are just my thoughts...
Was the following Mary,Andrews mom or sister(her age in
                                                                            census?)
If mom-did she marry twice.
After Andrews bapt-did the family move back to Debyshire
where a son George was bapt.1825
Did father George die between 1825 + 1831.
I know that ages + birthplaces can differ on census
due to various reasons.

Here goes..
1841  cens West Bromwich Staffs
James Sanderford   45  miner             not born in county
Mary                        35                        ............................
Andrew Bond          20  .......               yes
Geoge    .......          15                        no
James Sanderford    5                         no

2 Submitted records I.G.I
marriage Mary Bond + James Staniford Jan 31 1831 Derby
Mary Bond + James Staniforth ...    ..... Alfreton DBY

Baptism James Sandiford jan 6 1834 Alfreton Derby

1851 I believe you have Andrews details
1851 George Bond prisoner(Willows message)

1851 West Bromwich Staffs
          James Sandford   58 miner        Nottingham
          Mary                     61                  Derbyshire
         James                   16                Gornal Staffs

Hi there all you helpful people who trying too find the right George and Mary Bond for me.  I have been sent by a cousin (didn't know she existed) copies of Certificates.  Unfortunately they weren't compressed be emailing and I can  only get half of each to print out, but by scrolling across I found out the following for Andrew Bond.  FRom FRee Reg. Andrew's Baptism/ Christening at St Leonards Church Bilston Staffordshire, Register No 21473.  Baptism date 23/4/1820. Father George Bond Mother Mary (no surname filled in no doubt because she was then Bond too) Abode Bilston  Father occupation Coal Miner.  Andrew married twice first to Ellen Barnes who was born 9/3/1823, married 1842 and died 1/7/1849 aged 26years at Newtown WestBromich.  Second Marriage to Martha Wilkinson formerly Hadley. Born 24/7/1825, married 25/12/1849 St Thomas Dudley.
Died in New Zealand at Dunedin 14/12/1888
Andrews Death Certificate is a copy in first Col 182 Died 20/11/1876 Horsley Heath Registration District Dudley, subdistrict Tipton  56 years old a coal miner who died of apoploxy.
I would be pleased if in your searching you came across Ellen's marriage details e.g. date and place just to complete her bmd.
After sometime Martha was alone apart from two surviving children John and Joseph Hadley.  John came out to NZ and when Joseph Hadley was coming out to join him Martha came too in March 1883.
Hope all this is a help in finding my George and Mary.  Thanks Bellbird.

Hiya Bellbird

I've just realised Jackie has given us a big clue

Andrew and George are living with their sister Mary in 1841 so the 1802 marriage could well fit the family.
