Aston Le Walls - Manor House
« on: Tuesday 15 July 08 09:10 UTC (UK) »

In 1871 a lot of WADDOUPS families were living at the Manor House.
In 1901 William Waddoups seems to be farmer at The Farm - Aston Le Walls.
Is there a connection?
I am doing free research for a friend on the WADDOUPS and HUFFER families.

Hi - the 1871 census shows 'Manor House' as the first enumerated dwelling - all following schedules indicate different dwellings.

There were certainly a lot of that name linked to Aston Le Wells  ... you'd have to follow William back from 1901 to see his relationship to the earlier families ...

The 1901 William [J] was born 1861 - two of that name & age +/- 2 years can be seen with Fathers George or Edmond and Mothers Mary Ann in 1871 Aston Walls .... you'd have to look more closely and possibly at other resources to pinpoint him ....

Tracing back -

1891 RG12/1182 Folio 4 Page 1
Aston Le Walls, Northamptonshire

Willm Joachim Waddoups 30 Farm Baliffs Aston Le Walls
Edith Mary 29 Banbury
Fredk. Vincent Hutchings visitor 16 Scholar Banbury
Mary Louise Hutchings visitor 8 Oxford

1881? 20 yr old Nephew (Baker) of Annie Waddoups 58 unmar Confectioner + niece Elizabeth 19 and nephew Thomas 15
RG11/1527 Folio 7 Page 8 73 - Bridge Street, Banbury

and if Thomas and Elizabeth are siblings -

1871 RG10/1463 Folio 9 Page 7
Aston le Walls, Northamptonshire

Edmond Waddoups 40 Carter? Aston le Walls
Mary Ann 33 Lower Boddington
William 10 Scholar All children born Aston le Walls
Mary Elizabeth 9 Scholar
Thomas 5 Scholar
John 2
Sarah Jane 1

The family living at the actual manor house in 1871 seems to be Thomas Mattingly? and wife Maria + a nephew and 2 servants. Further down the page are some Waddoup families who are in separate dwellings, maybe farm cottages owned by the manor house?

Hi

I've just found the 'Manor House' as the home of farmer Henry Shelley, his wife Elizabeth (nee Cotton) and nine of his ten children.  I've been researching the Shelley families originating from Beacon Farm, Hopton, Staffs for several years.  There must be a reason why one of the families suddenly makes the move across several counties in the 19th century.  Who were the owners of the Manor House, A le W,  I assume Henry was a tenant farmer?

Mike
