Hi Linda ...

A birth certificate for one of their nine children would give the mother's maiden name, and ordering the couple's marriage certificate would give the names/occupations of respective fathers.

If you're correct with the mother's name, then this is very likely her previous marriage (the only JOYCE/JOICE marrying a Mary in the correct time-frame):

02 JAN 1827 - John JOICE to Mary WELLER at Bletchingdon

(Source:  OFHS Oxfordshire Marriage Index 1538-1837)

Hi Linda,

Thomas Green, bapt. 26 Feb 1809, Saint James, Cowley, Oxford, England. Parents were Thomas Green and Fanny. The record is extracted.

Richard Green, bapt. 13 Aug 1837, Saint James, Cowley, Oxford, England. Parents were Richard Green and Elizabeth. The record is extracted.

Are you sure the two are connected?

Regards

sorry.
richard was richard joice, son of mary born 1837, cowley.
mary joice? married thomas green in 1839.

joice was either her maiden name and she had richard out of wedlock or she was a widow when she married thomas green.

in the 1841 census (littlemore oxfordshire) mary was 28 and thomas 30.
it shows richard joice as being 4.
then henry green aged 1 and anne green aged 4 months
this is where i got the name joice.

thank you for your help
