Hi, I am looking for more information on Merssy E (Bullet) married name. Born Scotland I know not where in or about 1853. I only have her on the 1881 census. Is Merssy an proper name does anyone know, or could it have been mis-spelled and mean Mary ? Ruth H.

Hello Ruth,
Mercy is a name, but have never seen it spelt Merssy
Have noticed that in 1881 they have an 11 year old son William born Shoreditch.Have been trying to find the family in 1871-but cannot.....yet.
1881 ref for anyone who wants to start searching is RG11/ 631 Folio 142 Page 54

However it might be Mary as you thought, there is this marriage in Shoreditch in 1868 which would fit.
William Bullet and on the same page Mary Emma LLoyde.
Dec 1868 ref 1c page 383, but there are only two names on the index.
Either they are the only ones on the page and they obviously married each other or two names are missing.
Regards
Carol
I still can't find them in 1871......gotta go out now,what about 1891?

I believe in 1871 they are at: RG10/503 folio 66 (Norton Folgate) (page 5) William Bullet, married, 25, carman, b. Suffolk (page 6) Mary E., married, wife, 23, nurse, b. Watlington Oxon (? - handwriting hard to read). William G, son, 1, b. Norton Folgate

Good one Jorose
Yes I agree it says Watlington Oxon-but don't know why the 1881 says she was born in Scotland I've never heard of Norton Folgate.
I believe in 1901 that Mary is lodging with the Wheadon family in Battersea, but I wasn't convinced until just now,cos it says she was born in London.
RG13/441 Folio 74 Page 24
We must try and find her before marriage tomorrow

Norton Folgate was next to St. Leonard's, Shoreditch, so it also fits with later information on the son William's birthplace.
She's not very helpful with her birthplace, is she!
