NEIL death
« on: Wednesday 16 July 08 11:22 BST (UK) » |

Hi all,
I am trying to locate the death/burial of Robert NEIL b 1801, Wigtown. He married Susan McCUTCHEON in Wigtown but I think they moved to Kilmarnock, at least that is where Susan died 1856 and their daughter Martha married, 1862. Her marriage certificate has Robert as deceased.
I have him on the 1841 census in Whithorn with wife and children, James, Janet, Robert, Martha and Hugh. I can't seem to locate the family in 1851. So still have no idea what years I am searching between.
I did search SP between 1855 - 1862 but no joy there for me.
Any ideas?
Fiona

Hello Fiona,
The 1851. census index for Kilmarnock, Ayr, is the following family,
Neil Susan, age 50 years, Neil Martha, age 16 years, Neil Hugh, age 13 years, Neil William, age 8 years.
As i said this is only a index, with limited information, but you can get the full census, at Scotlandspeople, which would confirm if Susan was a widow at the time.
On the 1861. census index, Kilmarnock, Ayr, is this family,
Neil William age 18 years, born Whitehorn, Neil Martha, age 26 years, born Whitehorn, Neil Samuel K. age 1 year born Kilmarnock, Kennedy Samuel, age 38 years, born Ireland.
I am almost 100% certain i gave this information to someone in the past, i have checked my posts on here and its not there so it must have been on another forum.
Regards, Jonn.

Hi John,
Thank you so much - these records will certainly narrow down the death date for Robert.
You could be right about sending this to someone previously, and that someone could very well have been me...I have found in my recent desire to get everything organised on my computer that some information sent to me previously I simply wrote down but didn't print out the source - I big mistake I have found!
SO, in my desire to get serious about documentation I'm trying to source all of my info, so please forgive me if some of my posts/requests sound familiar - I'm trying my best not to double up on different forums because I'm aware of how much time goes into searching and how frustrating it can be when you know for certain that you've done it all before...that's where I'm at.
So please accept my apologies and my sincere gratitude for you help - I'm finally getting it organised
Fiona
