Katherine J Hickman born c 1863 Staffs.(various town entries) d/o Alfred and Lucy.
She is on the 1871 with parents and siblings age 8 yrs. She is on the 1881 age 18yrs, at Fauconberg House, College for Ladies.
She married in 1888, Rupert Edward C Kettle in Wolverhampton. Her full name is Katherine Josephine.
She is on the 1891 with her husband and servants in Tettenhall, Kingswinford. (name spelt with 'C') Her husband is a solicitor.
I cannot find Katherine in 1901, but her husband is there, and down as married.
Can you help with this one please?
Many thanks Gillianr

Hi Carole W
Could you give me a bit more info. The Katherine I found was born in Nottingham, although visiting in London.
My Katherine was born in Staffordshire.
Any chance of the R.G. Number
Many thanks
Gillianr

Hi
I was referring to her husband - not Katherine. Your message gives the impression that Rupert was in Staffordshire in 1901 when in fact he was in London

Sorry CaroleW
Crossed wires:(
Yes I do have Rupert Kettle in London, but I don't know where his wife is.
Maybe if the 1911 were to hurry up and come out, we would find out:)
Thanks again Cheers Gillianr

Hi CaroleW, Willow and co.
Can we do a HICKMAN 'ROUNDUP' FINALE?? Then the Hickman/Trench families can be deleted from your web site, to save others going over research already done. (I don't know how to get rid of my completed postings).
The following 4 are the children of Alfred Hickman and Lucy.
Lucy Trench (nee Hickman) born c 1853 Bilston Staffs. Married Stewart John Trench 12th December 1877 (Info from your good selves)
I cannot find Lucy Trench on the 1901 - any ideas?
Katherine Josephine Kettle (nee Hickman) born c 1863 Great Barr Staffs. Married Rupert E.V. Kettle 1888 in Wolverhampton. Rupert is in London on the 1901, but I cannot find Katherine.
I think your already have the above two:)
Mary Violette Hickman born c 1857 in Sedgley Staffs. She is on the 1861 and 1871 with her parents and on the 1881 with just her father. I cannot find her on the 1891 or 1901 and I cannot find a marriage or death.
Finally, and the most difficult is Thomas Edward Hickman born c 1859 Bilston Staffs. He is on the 1861 with his parents and is down as Thomas Age 1 year. He is on the 1871 again with his parents but down as Thomas E Age 11 yrs. I am presuming he is also in Ireland in 1881 like most of the others were, but cannot find him on the 1891 or 1901. Cannot find a marriage or death. (Maybe he stayed in Ireland).
If you cannot help on these final 4, don't worry, I will just have to leave it open in my file, but for all the other help you have given me, I thank you all very much.
Yours gillianr but I cannot find him on th

Hi Gillianr, found this marriage, out of area but maybe she's yours. Mary Violet Hickman married James Hoole, Rugby 6d 697, June qtr 1882.
Also, are these children of your Alfred and Lucy: John Owen Hickman bapt 29 Aug 1870 to Alfred and Lucy, Iron Master of Goldthorn Hill, W-ton. Lilian Frederica Voilet Lucy Hickman bapt 5 Jan 1873 to Alfred & Lucy Owen, Iron Master of Goldthorn Hill, W-ton.
Apologies if this has already been researched.
Julie

Hi Julie Thanks for your message.
I will look into the marriage you have found for Mary Violet Hickman.
In answer to your other question, yes, they are the children of the Infamous (famous?) SIR Alfred Hickman. MP for Wolverhampton. and owner of Iron works in Tipton Staffs. There is a park named after him also.
It was your kind team of searchers on Roots Chat who found out all that info for me.
Many thanks for your contact, will let you know about the marriage.
Cheers Gillianr

Hi again Julie
I have checked that marriage you gave me for Mary Violet Hickman in 1882. I am afraid it is not the one as she was still single in 1901, but at least with you finding the baptism you have given me her full name, and what a long one it is:) I had already got the christening from Familysearch, but only the initials of her name,
Thanks for that anyway. Cheers Gillianr

Hi Willow
So you are a black country person? nice one.
My mom came from Wednesbury, and all her family lived there. Lovely people:) Sadly there is only one member of her family now left in Wednesbury.
Thanks for those links, I will take a look.
Cheers Gillianr

Hi Willow Thanks for your comments. Do you know St John's Church, St John's Road, Dudley?
Parishoners etc are trying to save it from closure, and one of the Hickman daughters married into a family named Noott, who was the reverend of that Church for 63 years. He was from Cardgian, Wales, and his father was a doctor, and a cousin of his, Dr Edward Jenner, was the scientist who discovered vaccine, mainly against smallpox.
There was a Marjorie Cashmore who wrote a book called "A Feast of Memories - Black Country Food and Life at the Turn of the Century", and she was the great-granddaughter of the Rev. Noott.
Just a bit of 'useless' information:)
It is amazing how one little question can lead you into a mountain of information:)
Cheers Gill
