Hi, Lynn

I don't have much on my HOVEL ancestors other than Lucy HOVEL, b. abt. 1799 in Seething, Norfolk married William DIX, b. 29 April 1801 in Southrepps, Norfolk.  They are my 3 x great grandparents on my mother's side.

If Winterton is close to Seething, then it could be that our HOVELs are connected in some way.  I'm not sure how common a name HOVEL is.

If I find out more about my HOVELs, I'll post here so stay tuned!

Hello Ros,
I've just looked at map and Seething is quite far away from Winterton on Sea but you never know.

Hi Ros,

Reeve, that's a connection I'm interested in. My GG Grandmother Susanna Ann REEVE married Charles Reynolds in Norwich in 1888. Her father William was a whitesmith (tinsmith), mother was Susannah They lived in Wounded Heart Lane. Jumping back to 1851 the only william I've found in the Norfolk census of the right age was a carman( Huh).

Does any of this sound familiar?

PS Hovels has two l's

Hi,

Sorry but I don't know much (yet) about my REEVE connections other than Elizabeth REEVE (born about 1789 poss. near Horning) and John SLATER (or SLAUGHTER..spelling varies) were the parents of my 3 X great-grandfather, Francis Russell SLATER, b. 15 Mar 1816, Horning. Wish I could offer more.

In terms of my HOVEL connection, again, I haven't found much on my ancestor, Lucy HOVEL.  I believe Lucy was born abt 1799 in Seething but I can't yet confirm this.  (HOVEL--one "L"--is the way the name appears on the 1851 and 1861 census according to Vivian Egan who is a fellow DIX researcher.  Like many of my ancestors, the name varies according to the cenus takers, parish clerks, registrars.  Helps to keep us on our toes!)

Here's the info on HOVEL that Vivian passed along to me:

1861 Census - Stoke Holy Cross, Norfolk - wife of William DIX, born Seething [source: 1861 Census RG9/1225 - Margaret WOODROW].

Hi

My 3x great grandmother was Eliza Dixon Pooley and she married William Wright, I am hoping you may have come across the families.

Eliza was the daughter of Richard Pooley and Mary Dixon who married in St. Stephen's, Norwich on 16 Jan 1806. I have their children as Mary Ann Pooley b. 1806 and d. Q1 1886 unmarried,  Eliza Dixon Pooley b. 1808 m. William Wright16 July 1832 in St. Peter's Parmentergate and d. 20 Nov 1884 in Lowestoft, Richard Pooley b. 1812 and d Q1 1901, and Fuller Dixon Pooley b. 1817 and d. Q2 1892.

Fuller, Richard and Mary are on the 1881 census at Charing Cross, Norwich and Eliza at 5 Prospect Place, Norwich.

William Wright was the son of William Wright and Mary Ann Love. He was b. 1806 in Norwich. By 1881 he has been married to Eliza for 49 years and is with her at 5 Prospect Place, his occupation at that time is recorded as a Ginger Beer Manufacturer. He died 26 March 1892 on Beccles Rd in Lowestoft.

William and Eliza's family is widely spread besides Norwich they can be found in Lowestoft, Bradford (Yorks), Ashton-under-Lyne (Lancs) and other areas of Lancashire.

I have a family tree on rootsweb if any of this is looking familiar.

Steve in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Hi Steve Smiley

Sorry I dont know anything about my Ann Pooley , apart from the Coltishalll link..Its the furthest Ive gone back on that side of the family. I will keep what youve mentioned and see if it arises in the near future..With a name like Pooley being I would of thought not a common name there must be a link somewhere.
