Good afternoon,

I am trying to trace Jane WEST, b. St. Neots c1804, (don't know her maiden name) who I think became a widow towards the end of the 1850's, as she may have married John COZENS in Clerkenwell in 1860.

I have an 1841 partial census result as follows:

Green End, St. Neots

John WEST 35, Ag. Lab
Jane WEST 35
George WEST 15, Ag. Lab
John WEST 15 Ag. Lab

I would be interested in the 1851 return for the same family.

They should not appear in 1861 if my theory is correct, at least John and Jane should no longer be there. If this could be checked I would appreciate it.

I have not been able to find a marriage for John and Jane, which I would estimate at around 1825.

I note that there are 2 John WEST's who died in St. Neots, one in 1855 and the other in 1858, which might confirm my idea that Jane was widowed.

If anyone can throw a light on the above I would be grateful.

Many thanks for the info on 1851, which has given me Great Paxton, which I'm assuming is in Hunts.

I'm away from home until next Wednesday, but if no-one has found it in the meantime I'll look up the marriage in Hunts Marriage index when I get back

Very much appreciate your offer of looking up the marriage index.

For your information other sources seem to confirm that Jane WEST is the one I'm looking for, as there were 2 possibilities for the  Clerkenwell marriage in 1860, a Jane WEST or a Jane HUNT.
