Thomas was the son of John Meldrum and Jane Sang, born 5 and baptised 30 June 1815 in Kirkcaldy.
What became of him? Did he died young? Did he emigrate?
I have loads of information about his parents and all his siblings, but nothing on Thomas after his baptism.

Hi Forfarian
There are a number of siblings on the IGI (extracted records 1817-1830) Have you traced any of them through the census? Thomas appears to have been the oldest in the family. Sometimes helps to check immigration if you are looking for a family vs an individual. I'll see if my horrible transcription finds anyone
Trish
Edit: I can perhaps find brother Edward (born 1821) in 1851, listed as a boarder in Bathgate - a manufacturing Chemist. No other Meldrums in the household.

Thank you, Trish.
I have most of the census returns for all of Edward's siblings. I also have marriage and death records for all the siblings, none of whom emigrated.
Unfortunately parts of the 1841 census of Fife, including that of Kirkcaldy, were lost at sea when the ship taking them to Edinburgh went down.
You are quite right about Edward Meldrum in Bathgate. He became a chemist, went into partnership with James 'Paraffin' Young, made a fortune in the shale oil industry, became a wealthy landowner, built a vast Victorian pile (since demolished) and died there aged 54 of cancer.
Their sister Marjory, who died in Edinburgh aged 33, had two sons, one of whom, James Edward Stoddart, married 'Paraffin' Young's daughter Agnes.
Brother John died in Glasgow aged 21.
Sister Jean married, had three sons, and was widowed by the age of 32. She lived in Glasgow from her marriage until her death aged 85.
Sister Ann married and died childless aged 64.

I was hoping I couldn't find them because they had all left. I wondered why Kirkcaldy was not mentioned in my 1841 census - fortunately my folks came from other parts of Fife.
I know a little about immigration to Oz, but nothing re US and Canada. I found nothing in a quick check of the eastern mainland Oz states. My gg grandfather from Fife came out here in 1836, he got a small inheritance & used that to pay his fare & buy some land. Your man was of an age when convicts were still being sent to Australia, so that could be checked as well.
Trish
I can't see him on ancestry & neither as a convict to Tasmania http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=11
21 year old Thomas Meldrum arrived in Qld 1857 - obviously not him unless the age is wrong A few Thomas Meldrums died in NSW in the 1890s but parent names are wrong http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births This is the NSW archives - general index search http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/archives/keyname_search_2187.asp
Might be worth a post on the immigrant boards - lots of folks there know more than me as to where to look

Yes, I have looked at all the deaths of Thomas Meldrums with a birth date 1810-1820.

Thanks for that, Welch. However mine would have been only 11 or 12 years old in 1827, and his next of kin were parents John Meldrum and Jean Sang, so it doesn't look as if this is the answer.
I appreciate your help.
