Anyone going to Beverley Archives ?
« on: Friday 18 July 08 10:04 BST (UK) »

I would be very, very grateful if someone could check the details of the following Baptism's, found on IGI, on their next visit please.

St Mary, Kingston on Hull
James to George & Elizabeth DUFFIELD - 2 January 1803

Sutton in Holderness
Fram to George & Jane DUFFIELD - 29 June 1823
Amelia to George & Jane DUFFIELD - 29 June 1823
Frances to George & Jane DUFFIELD - 28 August 1825

Drypool
Adelaide to George & Jane DUFFIELD - 5 June 1831

I have the names of other children baptised to George & Elizabeth / George & Jane, at Selby, so I'm trying to ascertain if this is the same George DUFFIELD.

Thank you

Hi Sara,

I just wondered if the parents were George Duffield & Jane Butterworth who married at Selby in 1807?

The reason I am asking is that a GEORGE BUTTERWORTH DUFFIL was Christened: 08 MAY 1814 Sculcoates, Yorkshire IGI batch No. C009152.  In that batch are another 3 children born to a George & Jane Duffil/Duffield.

Yes, that's correct.

There are two Marriages of a George DUFFIELD, Cooper of Selby @ Selby.
1 March 1802 to Elizabeth APPLEYARD, George was aged 20
26 May 1807 to Jane BUTTERWORTH, George was aged 24 and a Widower.

One George DUFFIELD, two Marriages, on the face of it... but having checked baptisms of other children, in Selby, which are Dade Registers... I'm totally confused and wonder if there were actually two different George's... cousin's perhaps?

27 March 1804. A daughter Ann was baptised to George, Cooper of Selby, the son of James DUFFIELD, Cooper of Masham and Frances, his wife. (wife: Elizabeth APPLEYARD)

29 May 1808. A son George was baptised to George, Cooper of Selby, the son of George John DUFFIELD, of Masham. (wife: Jane BUTTERWORTH)

George and Jane go on to have other children baptised in Sculcoates, which I've checked - all say that George was a Cooper. Other children were baptised in Sutton in Holderness and Drypool which still need to be checked

Meanwhile last night, on IGI, I found the James baptism @ Kingston upon Hull and wonder if this may be a son from the first couple / marriage ?

Incidentally... I wasn't able to find a Burial of an Elizabeth DUFFIELD @ Selby between 1804-1807 which again, leads me to believe that there may be two couples.

James DUFFIELD, Cooper of Masham - is my 4 x gr grandfather. Yes, he had a son George b 1783 @ Masham... who would nicely fit the bill. Unfortunately, despite extensive research, I haven't come across another George DUFFIELD born about the same time, to a George John DUFFIELD.

As I say, I'm confused... so very grateful for your interest / input.

Thanks very much

Sara

Hi Sara,

Yes, the occupations given for George Duffield on them all was 'Cooper'.

On the Sutton & Drypool ones his abode was given as Witham.

Looks like you have a lot of sorting out to do to untangle them.
