I was wondering if anyone could help me, I am stuck on a part of a family tree (one of many!!)
I have a Jenet Fortune from East Lothian, born in c.1687, she married Alexander Comb in 1710, but I cannot find the details of her parents.
Can anyone help? I have all her children and all of Alexander's family, its just Jenet parents that I cannot find. 
If anyone could help I would truly appreciate it. Thanks

I don't have Jenet / Janet.
Very close though - my gggggg grandfather is John Fortune (Forton) born c1685 in Innerwick.
I'm stuck there but maybe between the two of us we can find something else.
I've also found Fortoun and a few other variations.

Do either of you have a connection to the family of Thomas Fortune and Catherine Purves who were married at Innerwick on 22 June 1682. The line comes down through their son, Thomas Fortune, b 1686, his son John Fortune, b 1713, and his son George Fortune, b 1754 who married Margaret Kidheugh to their son, Alexander Fortune, b September 1796. He had an illegitimate daughter by Margaret Torry of Innerwick in 1821. Margaret Torry's sister, Elizabeth also married an Alexander Fortune in 1819. I am trying to establish whether the two Alexanders are the same person!

No definite connection although I've previously considered Thomas and Catherine as parents of my John bc1685. Nothing to prove it yet though.
I think with the Innerwick connection, there is a strong possibility our families are connected at some point around or before the 1680's.

Hello there,
I am toying with the idea (but I don't know where it came from) that George Fortune is Jenets father, But george would have been born in the 1600's. Problem is I cannot find Jenet's Birth the only thing I have is her name on a birth certificate and marriage date. The frustration is that marriage certificates do not give out parents names. I guess this is why its difficult to get back much further than the 1600's, I do not understand how people manage to get back to the 1000's, I don't think my mind is logical enough for it unfortunatley.

Jennet Fortoun born or christened 20/4/1690 in Prestonkirk
Parents Patrick Fortoun and Jennet Mill
Found it on SP when looking for my John.
