Hospital admissions
« on: Friday 18 July 08 12:31 BST (UK) »

The Great Ormond Street thread has got me thinking.

My father (Victor Horace Rands or Horace Victor Rands b.1923) was blinded at 5 years of age, then was able to have a corneal graft at about 11 or 13.

Would I be able to find which hospital and dates etc for this, do you think?

It's not a high priority but seeing the other site has set me thinking and sparked a little interest. So if anyone has any hints or tips, I would be grateful.

The family was probably still living in or near Hackney, London at that time.

I have tried searching but couldn't find anything I understood.

You could try writing to the hospitals in the Hackney area (not a clue which they would be I'm not from the London area).  The only problem is that as far as I know most records are destroyed about 20-30 years after the last entry.  At least that's what I was told about records in the Manchester area (relating to the mental hospitals, but I can't think general hospitals would be any different).

The most likely hospital would be Moorfields:

It was founded in 1805. History here:

My Mother, sister and niece have all been treated there.
