Can someone tell me what they read William's surname as. It is transcribed as Pockett but I don't think it is. I'm hoping after months of searching they are mine.
Thanks Chris

Hi
Can you tell us which census and the county and RG number. We can then magnify the image onscreen

I've played with it and can't get the top up whatever I use. My best bet is the Po/achett or Fo/achett at the moment. Nothing on negative either.
Added - Not P - other's on page are different!

Another site has it indexed as Sockett - but I don't think it looks like that
The images are all poor - my Shropshire CD is the same

If you look at the entry above - Philip Davies and look at the way the enumerator has formed the P
Now look at the entries for the 2 Sarah's and also Samuel Griffiths and look at the way the is shaped
My bet is on it being Pockett

Only one that seems to fit from the IGI is Sockett.

I am hoping that it is Sockett but the image is too bad for me to be sure.
The william Sockett from IGI would match up (almost).

Can't find a marriage for William and Sarah though - have you got one?
I've got some (paper) Shropshire records that I could check, if not.

Added - remember that the 1841 used age rounding down - so this one would be born 1767-1771

Hi Gadget,
Thank you. I was hoping it was their census entry but couldn't be sure. I think I'll list it as probable.
Chris
added: The marriage date matches except I had it as Wellington.

It's only 2 miles or so from Wellington - I presume they died before 1851. Have you got any death regs?
