I am looking for Agnes Murdoch born abt 1856 in Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire.
She was the Daughter of Elizabeth Gall (presumably illegitimate) and was with her mother in Crawfordjohn in the 1861 and 1871 Census for Crawfordjohn.

In 1864 her mother married Richard Stevenson and on the 1871 Census She is still listed as Agnes Murdoch.

I have been unable to find her in the 1881 census doing searches for both Agnes Murdoch and Agnes Stevenson and also doing a search on IGI for her marriage their are a lot for each surname but none in the Crawfordjohn area.

I would like to know what happened to her after the 1871 Census

I wonder if  Agnes is living next door to her mother in 1881 census

Doing a free search on SP there is a marriage for a William Kirk and Agnes Gall in Crawfordjohn in 1878

Thanks very much for the information and it looks right

Checked the Census and she is living next door to Elizabeth Gall, I have also done a search on the 1871 Census for Agnes Gall and nothing turned up.

The funny thing is why was she married as Agnes Gall and not Agnes Murdoch or Agnes Stevenson?

There is also an MI for them in Crawfordjohn

Erected by William Kirk in memory of James Kirk his father, who died 25 Feb 1906 age 80yr., also Margaret Wright, his mother who died 5 Nov 1907 age 83yr. The above William Kirk who died 31 Dec 1932 age 77yr Agnes Gall, wife of the above who died 23 Sep 1940 age 84yr.

I think that I shall use the "innocent till proved guilty" quotation and add this data to my tree for Agnes and only remove it if I am proved wrong. I will see if I can get more information on the marriage which should have Elizabeth as the Mother.

William Kirk was a Road Surfaceman and Agnes's Stepbrother was a Contractor for Road  Metal in 1901 so thats another possible tie.

Thanks very much for all your help and can fill in the rest of the census's as they are certainly on line for Crawfordjohn.
